    Main bearings, here I come

Have spent the past few days lying on my back as I wanted to see if I could find the reason for that knocking sound in my engine bottom half that is by now loud enough to be commented by wife, daughter and the family dog. However, having torn the car half apart already in order to get to the...

    Oil pump knock?

Spent the sunny afternoon today lying underneath my 1930 Tudor, listening to a fast knocking sound coming from my oil pan. Sounds is as if you put a nut into a metal can and shake it, or like a defective ball bearing would (except there is not supposed to be any ball bearings in there, of...

    Removing Undercoating from Fenders

Removing undercoating is one dirty job. Heat the undercoating with some sort of flame, as you do so it softens and can be scraped of with some sort of scraper or a dull chisel. You may want to do this outside in open air due to the smell.

Hi, I just took a look at the spare engine that is sitting in the corner of my garage and which has not been running for the past fourty years or more, and discovered a nice set of spark plugs, of the type that can be taken apart. Before long I found myself busy cleaning them up and started...

    Spring woes

Could anybody direct me to a good picture or drawing of the correct spring for my car ? (1930 Tudor). Top spring bar on my spring is just short enough to fit between the two U-bolts, is this correct? thanks

    Spring woes

yes, I drew the u-bolts down into the top of the frame. Bolt centered nicely in hole, head of bolt up through hole. I had completely forgotten about the different types of rear spring, which might be the core of the problem (I do not remember now if it had cotter pins when I took it apart. I am...

    Upper radiator hose leaking

Talking about radiators, I would like to ask if there is any good advice that I need to know about filling a radiator. I just pour water\coolant innto it until it is about an inch from the top of the overflow tube, but will the engine have to be running when I fill the radiator? thanks

    Valve adjustment?

Hi, my 1930 Tudor has the original, non-adjustable tappets. This seems to me to be a somewhat bizarre design as I would think that valves will have to be adjustable. I was told by somebody to file the ends of each valve in order to achieve the correct clearance between valve and tappet, is this...

    Engine knock (oh no,)

This may be too far out for any expienced Model A owner, but here it comes: would it be possible that the end of a conrod can actually hit the splash pan? Thanks all of you for your help,

    Engine knock (oh no,)

I dismantled the engine down to its smallest bits, until I held the cranckshaft in my hands, gave it new piston rings and valves. Of course I took great care to arrange shims on rods and main bearings in the order that I found them. Runs good, I have done about one thousand miles and almost no...

Hi fellow A owners, new guy in town doing his first post on this forum. Found the A of my childhood dreams (1930 Tudor) and brought it back to life after more than fourty years of silence. Did everything myself, including painting and even sewed up a new interior myself as wife refused (had...
