Champion spark plugs?

Hi,
I just took a look at the spare engine that is sitting in the corner of my garage and which has not been running for the past fourty years or more, and discovered a nice set of spark plugs, of the type that can be taken apart. Before long I found myself busy cleaning them up and started wondering why spark plugs back then could be taken apart? Was this really necessary? A test showed me that they still spark. Can I use them? They are marked Champion C 5, and not 3 X. Can anyone tell me what it is that I have? Have found a useful article on the 3 X and modern repros, in case you don't know it already, adress comes here: http://www.rockymountainmodelaclub.org/Spark_Plug_101.pdf
thanks

I think the C5 is a model B plug works fine for me .
I have them on my truck now on a model A engine.

I believe old gas in the 30's was low octane and caused a lot of carbon
thats why they came apart so you could clean them easy

Can a repo 3x be taken apart ? How many part is there when you take apart the nos 3x plug? It looks like the brass on the repo is crimped at the top.

The plugs were expected to be cleaned. Before we became a throwaway society people repaired things. When was the last time anyone replaced a bad cell in a battery instead of just throwing it away. Some of this is better, haven't seen a boot put in a tire in years.
