If you do buy a set of new shocks go with KYB's... Gabriels and Monroe's are NOT what they used to be.

There is something to be said about sticking with a tire shop or mechanic that you know and trust. If there is a problem, hopefully they will stand behind their product and treat you right.

If the inside of the tank "looks spotless", I would just run it as it is. You could take the sender unit to someone who works on electronics to see what they can do with it.
