There are two sizes, 13/32" and 7/16". Lawson Products carries a 13/32" six point, deep socket in 1/4" drive. Minimum order is $50, and you have to register to become a buyer from them. I went through the hoops and purchased 10 of them. Cost is about 5 dollars each. Hope to receive them...

It will help if you take the time to polish the steering arm balls to a "ball-bearing" surface. Use the original steel cups/washers/springs. Jim is correct in looking at the kingpins!

M&S Hydraulics shocks were improved by Bratton's. They are the closest design to the original Houdaille shocks and can be calibrated equally with KR Wilson equipment or by Schmauch's DIY method. Shocks that are not refillable have a shorter life and are much more prone to failure. Only...

The throttle plate should be nickel plated (not polished). The end of the shaft that is upset onto the plate should be unfinished brass.

jm29henry--I could not show every detail in Paul Shinn's video. Your carburetor is an H8, made October 1928. Your carb has a brass seat in the GAV. There is a subtle difference in that H7 was the last version to have a "round" choke boss. H8 and thereafter had a round choke boss with a...

One thing you might consider Master Cylinder is the thickness of the L-shaped rubber piece of the original motor mounts. In the past vendors have sold this when it is several tens of thousands thicker than the originals were. I think that is why many have had to use frame spreaders to install...

The original glycerine with 10% alcohol mix first used in Model A shocks was equivalent to SAE 80wt. Ford tested and released different oils in the next 10 years, ranging from equivalent 20 wt to 70 wt. The 600W oil sold by Snyders is equivalent to about 80 wt. Multi-viscosity oils may help...

Yes, Bob 85-140 wt will help with some marginal worn shocks, but not too much!

Paul Shinn video taped my seminar at the MAFCA national meet in Pendleton, OR on how to create an accurate DIY shock tester. This was based on my many years of testing with the original KR Wilson bench tester. I have worked out the precise torque-value math and correlated it to useable...

I will try to make it

The charging/not charging problem could be something as simple as not having a good enough consistent ground where the generator mounts to the timing cover. This can be easily checked by running a ground wire from the battery ground to the generator case and see if the ammeter shows charge. I...

There were 2,849 160-C vehicles made.

Hello John--You will have to find E28 round spindles paired with E28 backing plates or use the later spindles with later backing plates. Hope to see you one of these days, neighbor!

The 28-29's had longer horizontal "ends" (where you grab them to move them) than the closed quadrant 29-31's.

look at ford service bulletins, june 1930, page 468. it shows the detail you are looking for.

We had about 3" snow last week. Took the Model A out to a local restaurant. New tires, but still careful as it takes longer to stop with the narrow tires. Still, lots of fun!

George, you will want to replace the round head screws that hold the window mechanism in with the original flat head screws. You will not have "bumps" in the upholstery that way!

congratulations Bill!!! Thanks again for providing me photos of the front seat back side detail. Am working on upholstery buttons now...Hope to see you and Liz in Pendelton!

If you are a member of the Model A Ford Club of America or the Model A Restorers Club (the two national Model A clubs) then you can order the Model A Ford Paint & Finish Guide, 4th edition revised. Or you could borrow this from a friend who does belong and might have this publication. Paint...
