    MAFCA Board Election Results

Maybe they were busy with another project, like Rev. 5 of the RG&JS. I don't know. Now that they are not doing that, maybe they would pick it up. I don't know what the next project is in the queue. I'm sure they would be excited to have a volunteer pick this up. The First 50 Years was done by...

    What does "AR" actually mean?

I have never seen an AR- prefix. Can you give an example? .

    Cam/oil pump helical gear combination

You need to look at the original Ford drawing for part A-6250. It should have those dimensions, as they would be required by the machinists originally to make them. I have a low-res scan of the part and I cannot read that detail. You need a high res scan, which you can get from the Benson Ford...

    MAFCA Board Election Results

Sorry about that! I was so excited when they called me to tell me that I had been elected that I did not think about reporting on the other candidates. I wasn't actually given the overall results. I keep looking on the MAFCA website for the results, but they are not there. As near as I can...

    What does "AR" actually mean?

You are correct. Marshall. It has to do with Ford's parts numbering scheme and parts ordering and inventory control. The first version of a part may or may not have a -A suffix, to indicate it is the first version. You only got a -A when there was a later -B. For example, the Brake Operating...

    Hard steering

Look carefully, one end of the drag link DOES have the screw plug going in against the spring. For most cars that is the end at the pitman arm. The other 3 have the screw plug going in against the ball. .

    Cold start help

A "flick of the wrist" on the choke may not be enough. I pull it all the way out and listen for the starter motor to go "whump-whump" and then push the choke knob back in. If I remember correctly, your GAV is closed at 12 o'clock, so 6 o'clock is open 1/2 turn. That's a good place to begin. For...

    Hard steering

That thin cup-shaped piece goes in the drag link at the pitman arm end. The pitman arm ball presses against it. This is the only spot on the 4 tie rod and drag link balls that uses this piece. If you have hard steering, I predict the problem is in the thrust bearings on the top of your kingpins...

    Cold start help

I agree 100%, Benson. Opening up the GAV another 1/4 turn if it stalls the first time can help. And then as soon as it is running, and I pull the spark lever down about 1/2 way, I start experimenting with the GAV... closing a little, opening a little, to find the spot where the engine seems...

Model A models for tall drivers?

The Victoria has a slightly larger door than the front door of a Fordor Sedan, which can help some with getting in and out. Have you looked into moving the seat back a few inches? That made all the difference in my '31 S/W Town Sedan. .

    Cold start help

If the GAV is closed at 12 o'clock, you do not need to open it all the way to 2 o'clock except in subzero temperatures. That is a lot. For most cars, opened 1/2 turn (that would be 6 o'clock by your description) is plenty for cold starting. But you do need to pull the hand throttle down a bit...

How did you remount your front seat for more legroom (SW Fordor)?

You will also need to cut a slit in the rear carpet behind each slider. Otherwise the seat track bunches up at the carpet. .

How did you remount your front seat for more legroom (SW Fordor)?

The seat is anchored by the 2 tracks. The seat latch (that locks it into position forward and back) will be held by the 2 screws. If you are concerned about integrity of that latch base being held down with only 2 screws, then leave it attached with 4 screws and give up the added legroom. That...

How did you remount your front seat for more legroom (SW Fordor)?

If it uses the sawtooth style seat adjuster, then you can move the adjuster back. Snyder's says the sawtooth adjuster is used on Dlx 2-Dr Sedans, Dlx Coupes, Vicky, A400, Cabriolets, Slant Windshield 4-dr. and Dlx Phaeton. The following seat adjuster bracket is what has the 4 screws in it...

How did you remount your front seat for more legroom (SW Fordor)?

Remove the bottom cushion of the front seat. Locate the 4 flathead machine screws that are holding down the front seat latch. Remove them. You may have to remove 2, then slide the seat around a bit to uncover the other 2 screws to remove them. Slide the entire seat base and latch back about 4...

Question for those who installed an F1 steering in your A.

We installed one of these a few years ago. I recommend you first install the column without this 3rd bolt. Then mark the frame inside for the 3rd hole. Remove the column and drill a pilot hole. Then enlarge it. You can't use a template. You need to use the actual column as your guide. With the...
