    Transmission leak from speedometer cable

I did read #5, that's why I am checking the levels. What is the fix for a leaking converter? Converter replacement or is there a seal that can be replaced? I did replace the front main (pump?) seal that the converter shaft slides into and I don't have anything leaking there.

    Transmission leak from speedometer cable

And that was the original question. In normal operation and after a shutdown should fluid be high enough to fill the speedometer cable housing? Currently, when warm and idling the trans fluid reads just above the "L" mark on the dipstick. The "H" mark is about an inch higher and the stick...

    Transmission leak from speedometer cable

This is the original 62 year old cable. I did not pull it apart but I did check that it turned without restriction. It does work and the speedometer moves smoothly without jerking and without any noise. I checked again yesterday and it is dry at the transmission case. The cable has a 6-8"...

    Transmission leak from speedometer cable

I think the fluid is leaking from inside the cable. It is not leaking at the case but the cable starts showing wetness a few inches from the trans case. The fluid then drips on the trans rear crossmember and down from there.

    Transmission leak from speedometer cable

1959 Edsel Ranger, 292 V8, 2 speed aluminum case Mile-O-Matic - restored. When the car sits for a while (couple months) I get a fairly heavy leak from the speedometer cable. When I reassembled the car I replaced the o-ring on the cable and it is dry at the case so I don't believe the o-ring is...

    Replacement radiator fan for 292

The fan, spacer and pulley are factory original and appear to be in good shape but 61 years old. Everything looks like I remember it did way back when I was replacing water pumps on my 60s and 70s Ford, Mercury and F100 daily drivers. It has a new 180 degree thermostat that according to my IR...

    Miss on newly rebuilt 292

I am currently running the import carb but the vacuum port seems correct. Checking timing - at idle vacuum line plugged set at 8 degrees BTDC. Increase engine speed and the mechanical advance works smoothly and increases timing to about 22 degrees. Plug the vacuum line back in. Timing at...

    Replacement radiator fan for 292

The bolts, pulley, spacer and fan are all original to the car. The water pump is new but has the same mounting as the old pump. I checked and the bolts are going through the pump mount and out the back about 1/4". The center hole in the pulley and the pump shaft are sized correctly...

    Replacement radiator fan for 292

The bolt holes on the water pump are through holes, unless they are not tapped all the way, which seems unlikely, there is no way for the bolts to bottom out. I checked both the pulley and the spacer and they seem fine, nothing in the away and flat ends. Still I would like to upgrade to a...

    Miss on newly rebuilt 292

I got some Mexican made Blue Streak ignition parts and installed them today. New coil, points and condenser. I also installed a new set of hotter plugs (Autolite 46 - Made in China). I replaced the coil to points wire, the old one looked ok, no cracks or breaks in the insulation and tested...

    Replacement radiator fan for 292

1959 Edsel 292, 2v auto. I currently have the original 4 blade radiator fan. Something is just not right about it, even with the 4 bolts very tight to the water pump the fan wiggles a little. It is the fan itself, not the water pump shaft/bearing. You can slide your fingers behind the pulley...

Mile-o-matic blows fluid out filler on cold start

The leak is from the fill tube. If I run it daily it will not leak enough fluid into the pan/fill tube to blow it out on startup.

    Miss on newly rebuilt 292

Carb is new and choke disengages completely after warmup. As I have already mentioned I adjusted the carb and have 19.5" of vacuum, the needle does move a little but adjusting the carb does not stop that - it has to do with the miss. As I also mentioned I have had the heads off during the...

Mile-o-matic blows fluid out filler on cold start

59 Edsel, 292 2v, aluminum case real 2 speed Mile-O-Matic (Ford-O-Matic). The car is all original and this is the correct "PBR" code transmission for the 292. Sitting for 50 years. I had the trans out, fully drained it including torque convertor. It drained for a couple months while I pulled...

    Miss on newly rebuilt 292

The cap and rotor are new and look new. First thing I did was pull the cap and look for anything that was not right. The contacts are all clean and nothing looks out of place. There are no cracks or anything else. The rotor is the correct height and length (compared to the old one) and it is...

    Miss on newly rebuilt 292

The last time this engine ran before the rebuild was in 1970. It was sitting for 50 years so all the old parts are really old! Only had a few minutes to work on it today but I put the old coil on and added the resistor back in. It starts and runs about the same - still has the miss. I then...

    Miss on newly rebuilt 292

The wires/firing order is correct. I've checked several times including a couple days ago when I tested the resistance of each plug wire. I'm going to try replacing the coil and plugging the external resistor back in (and I have a new spare if needed). Internet seems split on using internal...

Is the Blue Streak stuff any better?

    Miss on newly rebuilt 292

Thanks for the replies. I think that the spark is not strong enough and will be focusing on ignition. I've checked valve lash several times and the valves are not too tight. I did bypass the external resistor but also replaced the coil with one with an internal resistor so the points should...

    Miss on newly rebuilt 292

Sorry this is so long, just trying to give all the info I can to get a solution. I’ve got a miss I can’t figure out in a newly rebuilt 292 y-block, auto (aluminum case 2 speed) in a 59 Edsel. I’ve got it idling at about 575 in park and 480 in gear. The spec say idle in gear should be 450 but...
