    New to me

So I get ready to start the car. Crank it a bit and it seems to be spinning over fine, but it may be a bit flooded as it doesn't start. Then from up in the front I hear a "thunk" sound and there is no more spinning of the starter and nothing electrical works. There is a slight buzzing sound from...

    Best riding A?

I have a 31 coupe that has original type shocks which appear to be in fair condition. Like all I have ever had, they leaked from day one, but did seem to improve the ride. I tried some after market tube shocks and the gave a bad ride on the coupe and also on my roadster so I went back to the...

    Cleaning the radiator

Filled it with three gallons of distilled white vinegar. Plan to drive it for about three weeks, drain, rinse with tap water then refill with distilled water and a cup of baking soda for week or so, then drain, rinse and refill with 550-50 mix of Anti Freese and distilled water. Any comment...

    amp meter question

my amp meter is showing a constant charge, I'd guess about 6 amps, but that is all it does, key on or off, motor running or not, the needle fails to change position. This in a negative ground, 12V set up which I installed to facilitate A/C unit. It worked when I first put everything together and...

finding more foot/leg room in the 31 deluxe coupe

I am a bit short in the leg for my height, now down from 5'11 and 7/8", but I still have my size 12 shoes to try to maneuver into the coupe past the door opening to the front and the seat to my heel. Not to be out done, my bride seems to usually have to exit the car a time or two per entry to...

    A/c

So here's where it starts. Start down the road, turn on the A/C and get cold air blowing at me for about 10 miles, eventually becoming just the cab air circulating nicely with no "cold" added to it. Checked the fan for the condenser and find it is not turning. Disconnect it and use a light to...

    A/c

So here's where it starts, I have an A/C unit from Mr. Davis down Texas way. It works well for the first 10 miles or so then becomes a nice mover of air that is in the cab, but doesn't add much, if any, cold to the cabin air. I suspected the fan that blows air through the condenser is not doing...

    The "Ace" mechanic

So I have kept a lot of scribbled notes and a few diagrams over the years to refresh the mind when redoing some of my major projects, as I believe more than a few of us have. I cleaned out my garage lately, that was a good thing, even a few brownie points with my bride. ( Can't remember what...

Engine with good inerds, hole in cylinder

This was a great running engine that developed a leak in the bottom 1/5 of the number 3 Cylinder. It still ran well but put out a cloud of steam, I drove it home and exchanged engines for another. All I've done is pull the head and pan so you can see for yourself what is there. Engine was bored...

    Terry Burtz rear main seal

I have a refreshed engine, that is not all new babbit or bearings, just refitted and it runs really well. Only problem I find is that the real seal area seems to leak worse than any I've seen. I'm thinking of buying a Burtz rear seal and having it put in place, or doing it myself. What all is...

    Burtz Engine

Anyone in the San Francisco area building Burtz Engines complete long block ready to install into vehicles, add accesories and fluids and drive off into the sunrise? I can't drive far enough into the sunset to get it broken in before I'd be getting wet in the Pacific. I saw something on facebook...

Kelsey Hayes Wheels on Model A

I picked up four Kelsey Hayes wheels a while back and let them go with some swap and work. Yesterday I got them back and determined that they shall stay here til the end. Absolutely straight and vey smooth. Put them on my Coupe to check all that out for myself and found they will all four go on...

Is there a sourse for information available on alighning the hood? My 29 roadster had issues with a bent frame horn and misaligned bumpers. Wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a good machinist in the SF Bay Area? Engine has a crack in #3 at a point close to the bottom of the piston stroke. With piston at bottom, the crack is just above the top of the piston. Wondering about sleeving it and such.
