I'm getting ready to help a friend install an engine. But I no longer have my frame spreader. I'm curious, could a rear spring spreader be used in a pinch for a frame spreader? If not, I will have to travel some miles to borrow one.
Mitchell recommends 85W-140 Gear Oil in their Synchro Transmission and O/D. I'm curious at what temperature 85W-140 "becomes" 140? I am considering using straight GL4 140W oil in my Mitchells.
Hi Guys, What is a good used Model A Transmission going for these days? A friend broke a couple of teeth off first gear and they got ground up by the cluster gear, among other things.
Has anyone received a hard copy of the Nov-Dec issue of the Restorer Magazine. I see it is on their website and I received the e-mail version weeks ago but I have not received the mailed issue.
I have not read the digital issues as I prefer to sit in "My Chair" to read it.
Anyone?
Thanks
We've all heard the story of Ol' Henry increasing his worker's pay $5 a day in 1914 but what did his worker get in 1930, the era of our cars? Curious mind are asking.
Thanks
While on a tour a freinds car started running rough. We found that he burned a valve.
What do you guys use or recommend for a valve spring compressor? Thee spring compressor I have doesn't seem to compress the spring far enough so we can get the keeper out. He has modern valves and retainers...
Man-o-man. I think I am going to start buying stuff from Snyder's and sell it on E-Bay.
Here is a $27 dash light going for $92+ with a couple hours left to bid.:eek:
I see a Snap-On Model A head nut obstruction wrench on E-Bay if anyone is interested. Current bid $29. Not mine, just passing along. I already have three in various tool boxes.
Does anyone know the measurement of the front spring eye to eye (center to center) of a Model A front spring? Off of the car?
I thought I seen these measurements but can not find them now.
Thanks
There was a recent discussion on rear end ratios and the weight of the car was mentioned. Which brings up my question. I am sure I have seen it but where can I find a chart that lists the weight of the different body styles of Model As?
I was perusing "Those Wonderful Unauthorized Accessories" book and came across a bunch of devices for Free-Wheeling.
What exactly is free wheeling, why would you want this and does anyone actually have one on their car now?
Seemed to be popular back in the day.
Something I should know but can't remember. Is there a certain position of the two holes in the U-Joint Inner Cap. The inner cap will fit in any position as the bolt holes are evenly space. I know some will only go on two ways because the bolt holes are not spaced evenly.
Thanks.
Our club is planning a safety inspection for when the Coronavirus Pandemic is over.
During planning, some members brought up the concern about liability to the club if a car was inspected and something caused a accident. Then another member brought up the fact that safety inspections are no...
A question was posed to me and I have no idea what the answer might be.
Did Ford use galvanized cotter pins back when or did he save money and use carbon steel cotter pins?
Thanks.
