    Chinese inner tubes, part 2

The 5 inner tubes that I was given have brass valve stems that are over 3 inches long. There’s no engraving on the stems as shown in the Judging Standards. The stems seem really wrong for my ‘28 roadster. And now two of the inner tubes have developed cracks with a lot less air pressure than 34...

    Chinese tubes

I recently got a deal on some new rims and tires from a local man who had gotten out of the hobby. He included 5 tubes that have never been used. They are all marked “Made in China” and had brass valve stems already installed. I did some research on here and saw many comments about the quality...

    Went out for coffee

Like others on this forum, I went out for a run early this morning. There was little traffic on the roads. Stopped for some coffee and then filled the tank on the roadster. $4.15 a gallon! Then came home and polished her up. Hope you all have a great day.

    Jim Beam bottles

At the local deli today while waiting for my lunch I saw this vintage VW Beetle Jim Beam bottle. It’s still full. I know that Beam released a bunch of Model A bottles years ago. Anyone have an idea of how long ago this bottle was released?

    Old Garfield tires

Reading the recent thread here about Garfield tires lead me to check out the ones on my ‘28 roadster. It still has the ones put on new by the man I bought it from back in ‘92. The only number I can find on the sidewall is 087. The car doesn’t get driven much and lives in the garage, so they...

Identity an old sedan, not Model A

I have been trying to ID the old sedan in the photos. In the summer of 1939 my mother and 4 girlfriends went on a road trip from Springfield, Illinois to the 1939 fair in San Francisco. They went all over the western part of the US, including Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, Crater Lake and down to...

    Cars n coffee show

Took the little roadster over to the local detail supply store for their coffee and car show. It was the oldest one there by far, the next closest was a ‘60 Rambler American station wagon. There were lots of nice cars and trucks and the coolest RC tow truck with a classic Chevy that I’ve ever...

    Ford emergency kit counter display

A gentleman from Belgium is looking for any old black and white photography of a garage, dealership, parts store where we can see this Ford counter display for the Ford emergency kit. the counter display is probably from late 1920's early 1930's. I looked at the two volumes of The Ford...

    The Roadster’s 97th birthday

The Roadster’s 97th birthday I know that the date stamp 12-28-28 on the gas tank isn’t the actual date of production, but I still celebrate it for the little blue roadster. Hope you all have a wonderful New Year and many miles in ‘26!

    Shut off switch question

I admit to being dumb when it comes to electric things. I can change a light bulb without two people to rotate the step ladder. But I’m not certain about installing the shut off switch on the roadster. The one cable extends back to the positive/ground terminal on the battery. What does the...

How do I remove the rumble seat side upholstery panels

The upholstery panels on the sides of the rumble seat in my ‘28 roadster need to be removed in order to install the top rest/grab handles. Any tips on this? Thanks

Rumble top rest /grab handle question

My ‘28 roadster didn’t come with the top rest/grab handles in front of the rumble seat. I now have a pair that I want to install. Both Snyder’s and Brattons sell a reinforcement brace that installs at the inside of the body. Those don’t appear to have been installed by the original owner during...

Do battery cables come in 6V and 12V?

In trying to install the battery disconnect switch using the bracket that attaches to the side of the starter, I found that I need a longer cable to connect the positive post to the switch. Are the cables different for 6V from 12V? Can I just go to my local auto supply store or do I need to get...

    Mama wasn’t happy…..

Mama wasn’t happy….. Recently my wife has become convinced that her 2025 hybrid must be leaking gas as she could smell it in her laundry room which opens into the garage. Her hybrid shares our garage with the ’28 roadster. Being an older male with diminished senses of smell (and hearing), I...

    Recommended shut off procedure

There seems to be some differences of opinion about the best way to shut down an A after driving. Some say just turn off the ignition, turn off the fuel and put the spark lever all the way up. Others suggest turning off the fuel and letting the gas run out, then turning off the ignition and...

Why is the battery post hot

Haven’t been able to get the roadster out in a while. When I tried to start it, it didn’t want to crank like usual so I decided to put the battery charger to use. When I touched the negative post to put the clamp on, it was very hot. Why’d this happen? Thanks in advance.

Two 97 year olds out for an Easter Sunday drive

Took Gloria, our 97 year old neighbor out for a ride in the’28 roadster. She had a little trouble getting into the car, said she’s not as spry as she was when her late husband came courting. But she had a great time and I’m so glad to see the smile on her face.
