I'm about to convert my stock 49 Mercury to overdrive. The clutch is relatively new, maybe 3,000 miles, and works well, but has slight chatter I think due to my failure to surface the flywheel. While I have ****** out should I replace the whole clutch assembly or can I save it by doing the...

Barely made it to the wedding reception

Yesterday I took a new bride and groom from our Church to their reception, a distance of about 5 miles, in town, in my 1923 Touring. It was hot, about 95 at 3 pm. On the way to the Church coming up a gentle grade the car stumbled as if running out of gas, and I resorted to the choke which got...

Calling all Smith Air Compressor fans

The Gordon Smith air compressor was built in Bowing Green KY starting in 1932. Production of Smith converted Model A cowl units continued at least to 1948, and using Smith's own sheetmetal with Model A power until 1953. Smith used a special head which allowed the 2 inner cylinders to pump air...

My pop out ignitition switch is on its last legs. I had it apart 50 years ago for cleanup and it worked well for most of that time. Lately I have to snap it repeatedly to get it to start. Trouble is coming so might as well fix it right. There was a recent thread on this I can't find. Can...

    Identify a chassis?

I dragged this fine treasure in today after a 35 or more year sleep in a barn at Plano KY. It looks to have been made into a farm wagon with Model A wheels bolted rather badly to the original wheel hubs. I see a riveted rear axle which looks to be 1912-15. Are there any other identifiers to...
