What the heck just happened ? (electrical)

So I’ve always been interested in test equipment, especially simple things like test lights but never went to the trouble of buying one. Anyhow I’m on Amazon and see a cheapo test light that has a built in readout that shows voltage so I buy it. It arrives and I’m eager to try it (even though...

I see a lot of posts dealing with setting valve lash. Is there an advantage over the stock solid lifters?

Cotter pins holding main bearing nuts

Today I spent 45 minutes trying to remove the cotter pin from the center main nut in the valve chamber. All I have to show for it are two bloody hands and a mangled cotter pin still in the nut. Anyone have any tips on getting this thing out? So far I have the carb, distributor, dist shaft...

Can an engine flood at idle ???

Had an odd problem today, got stuck at a railroad crossing for about 10 mins. Of course, as the gates open and traffic starts flowing my A started to sputter and die before I could give it any gas. So im in the roadway stalled out, with seemingly miles of cars behind me honking angrily, I...

    choosing water pump packing

My water pump puts out a decent amount of water through the packing nut. I've tightened it down pretty much all the way with really no improvement. The pump is of original type. I'm assuming this means I need to put in some new packing? I've looked through the suppliers and it seems there...

    Satisfaction

Been having some issues with my fordor lately. I was obsessing over these nagging little issues and it was causing me so much stress that I kinda distanced myself from the while model A thing for a few weeks. My dad always said sometimes its better to take time away and then re access with a...

    learn from my mistake

I recently installed a Nu Rex centrifugal timing device as I was always curious about them. I then set out to time the engine but couldn't find my hand crank. I was in a rush and eager to try out the centrifugal timing device so I got out an extra long screw driver, almost as large as a pry...

Slant window door latch removal ?

The other day, an over zealous passenger of mine slammed the passenger front door quite hard, It then popped right back open. The curved door bolt that engages the striker plate on the door post now has no resistance, and both the inside and outside handles just flop up and down with no...

    Question about plastigauge

I recently honed my cylinders and installed new rings. Now have everything assembled and want to set the rod bearings. Was going to use the foil method, but there's too much drag from the freshly honed cylinders and rings to discern the proper clearance. Decided to use plastigauge. My...

    Compression test results

As some of you may know, I'm trying to get to the bottom of a fluttery idle vacuum reading. I ran a compression test, please take a look and let me know what you think is on order. All tests were with throttle wide open, values start from cylinder 1 through 4 Snyders 5.5 head Hot engine 97.5...

    Odd idle issue

Car runs very well at idle, and moderate to high speed. But ive been suffering from some annoying hesitation as I give the car some gas from idle, not under acceleration, just when i crack open the throttle plate as im transitioning from idle, it momentary but annoying. I find that if I open...

    Blown intake/exhaust manifold gasket?

My idle has been getting progressively worse, where as anything off idle everything is perfect. I switched out several carbs all showed the same symptoms, which leads me to believe its the motor not the carb. Checked timing , ignition everything is good. Hooked up my vacuum gauge to the wiper...

    Model b carb GAV question

I'm running a model B carb on my fordor and love it, however I'm unsure about the GAV. I understand it should be closed while at operating temp, but what does the owners manual recommend its open to while warming up ? I've been running between 1/4 and 1/2 but don't really notice any difference...

Questions about adjusting bearing with engine in car.

I have decided to check and adjust (if needed) the main and rod bearings with the engine still in the car. I have read much about the foil method, which sounds like it would work well for me. I've read about the procedure, but still unsure about the rotation of the crank, do you rotate it with...

    Happy with Renner's corner

Recently made a purchase with Renner's Corner. I ordered a flow tested set of zenith jets and a marvel schelber / Allstate carb GAV driver. The machining on the hex GAV driver is excellent, and the jets for the zenith all came with a report of their actual flow data. Very pleased.
