Model b carb GAV question

I'm running a model B carb on my fordor and love it, however I'm unsure about the GAV. I understand it should be closed while at operating temp, but what does the owners manual recommend its open to while warming up ? I've been running between 1/4 and 1/2 but don't really notice any difference at all.

You are doing what I do, too. Basically, you can run it as closed as you want when the engine is cold, until you feel it missing a bit because it is too lean, then open it up a touch from there. Cold in summer is nothing compared to cold in winter.

My experience is that every carb and every engine is a bit different and you really just need to do what works best for you and your engine. Going by what others do should only be a starting point.

If you notice no difference between running cold with it at 1/4 and 1/2 turn open, run at 1/4 open. Then close it down from there as it warms up.

Thanks Jim, its been 80s and 90s here in jersey since I put the B carb in, so i guess its not as big a factor till it gets cold.
