    Tierney of tolerances.

I have been thinking, always dangerous, and have a question. When Ford was building flathead engines how did they make sure the valves were adjusted correctly. Just thinking about the cam, lifter and valve and the quantity of engines being built there must have been many engines with the valve...

    Hosepower

I seem to frequently read about boosting horse power on this forum. Those who are into this horsepower chasing may find this link interesting. Go to the 4th. paragraph for the Model A information. Sorry if this old news to others, but I was stunned when I read the article...

    Find post

There was a post about the differences of flatheads from the earliest to the end of production. A very knowledgeable person posted pictures and descriptions. I would like to make a copy of that post for future reference and can not locate it using the search. Does anyone know what it is posted...

    Johnson carburator

I saw this in the Little Deerborn auction. I was aware of Holly and Stromberg carbs for the flathead. I have never known about this one, must be pure aftermarket. Can anyone shed light on why it was sold? Something new to learn about these engines all the time. Thanks, Bill Currie...

    Non Ford parts

There is a tread on the Model T section to identify a part. One person said it was a non ford part. This got me thinking about my youth and fooling with Model As. The old guy in our group, maybe 22 at the time, said there were lots of parts made for Model A and T cars that they tried to mark as...

    What year T?

Hi all, Hopefully a picture of a camper is attached. The post where this is from said it is a Ford. Any ideas based on what little can be seen on the year?

    Transmission question.

A friend of mine and I got into a discussion about Ford transmission synchronization. I was under the impression that Ford did not use Synchronization until 1939 and then it was a full synchronization. He said it was not synchronized in first gear. I was reading Mac Van Pelts site and it appears...

    Valve grinder

I hope this link works, anyone ever seen one of these? It looks mid-evel, or something that would be used for enhanced interrogations by the CIA. https://grafeauction.proxibid.com/aspr/Woster-uniform-valve-grinder-electric-works-off-of-battery-voltage-tester/32326794/LotDetail.asp?lid=32326794

    21 stud motor

Hey all flathead folks, Is the 21 stud more or less prone to cracks from valves to water jacket or other areas than later flatheads? I have a lead on a 21 stud that the heads have not been remove and thinking about buying, but concerned about cracks. Thanks.

    Old Fords are strange

I had my flathead for my 37 pickup rebuilt a number of years ago. It is not the original, 8ba. I never could get the engine to idle the way I wanted or thought it should. By the way the engine has about 7500 miles. It always had a noisy valve on start up that would quit down when it warmed up. I...

    T Parts

Hey guys, I am not a T guy, however, a company in Minneapolis, Little Deerborn, is closing. Their inventory is being auctioned off. There are not many T parts, just a few. The few T parts start on pg 3 and are interspersed with A parts for a few pages. Here is a link to the auction site...

    Rear end

The rear end in my 37 pick up has zerk fittings near the backing plates on the rear end. I have heard many things about how much grease to put in them, possibility of grease getting on brake shoes. Do others grease these zerks? If so how much? A few pumps of the grease gun? Thanks.

    Little Deerborn Auction

Spent some time viewing the on line auction for this company. I was shocked to see an 18% buyers premium. This seems high to me, I thought 10% was the "normal/standard" premium.

    Changing rear end oil.

I posted before about problems removing the original drain plug to drain the oil. I got a number of suggestions on how to get it out. I tried the following: pipe wrench, would not grip, vice grip, would not grip the small portion sticking out, vice grips grabbing the hole and banging with a...

    Rear end problem

Went to change the oil in my 37 pick up's rear end. As my luck would have it the drain plug rounded out, one of those 3/8 inch socket type. Anyone have ideas on how to get this out? I am thinking of trying CRC's Freeze-out. I know Kroil and 50/50 ATF and acetone are supposed to be the best, but...
