An Old Craigslist Scam is Back

I'm selling something on Craigslist and an old scam has popped up that I'd like to share with others here so they know how it works. The buyer wants to pay by check and entices me with extra money. This is where I stand with the buyer right now. I'd like to keep stringing him/her along but my...

    Stuck Door Hinge Pins

All it took was a search of the archives to find this and it worked perfectly! See post #3 here: http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=80463&highlight=hinge+pins I used a 12" bit (Lowes -- cheaper than Home Depot) and clamped a straight edge to the back of the hinge so my wife...

40-47 Pickup Door Bottom Drain Holes

I noticed that my '41 pickup has different sized drain holes on the bottom edge of the doors. One has 1/2" round holes forward and rear but the other has elongated 1/2" holes. Is there anyway to determine a year series between the two? Thanks! Lonnie

Engine Under a Hood Outside Precaution

I opened up a 59A that had thin rusty water tracks into four intake runners in the block and thankfully only stuck one valve. It seems the engine was condensing in the intake manifold from probably sudden heat and humidity. Seeing this, I'd recommend periodically dribbling transmission fluid...

Broke a Flawed Stud in 59AB Deck

Not crying or feeling sorry for myself but this incident is new to me and I thought I'd share. I always use the heat/wax/cool method with studs and had a top-center one crackle and snap at about half of the expected breakaway torque. It broke three threads below the surface and the remains...

    '41 Pickup Tailgate Hinges

I'd like to know from others if what I'm seeing on my pickup is common. The tailgate hinge mount bolts are trapped because I'm guessing there are tube spacers inside the rear stake pocket that are rusted and keeping them from coming out. My other question is: Are your hinges welded to the stake...

    Fire Engine Generator?

I'm trying to identify a generator that I purchased in a pile of other stuff from a guy who restored fire and rescue vehicles. I tried a search but only came up with Leece Neville generators. This is a Delco-Remy that has the 2-1/2" intake manifold mount but the mount bolt lug slot is 13/16"...

So how are shock links removed? I can't recall seeing it anywhere in the archives. Are they tapered stud and need a puller or pickle fork? Thanks. Lonnie

    Crazy Valve Seat Grinding Idea

I recently acquired an old Hall-Toledo EJ seat grinder which was pretty much complete EXCEPT  for the Ford V8 pilot. Most of the pilots in the set are locking type except for larger than about 1/2" I figure I won't find a locking pilot for a flathead for under three digits so here's my...

    Heck Of a Good Deal

I came across this yesterday. I contemplated buying it, then decided to pass it on to the Barners. Pretty sweet price considering the rebuilt engine alone is worth the price. Lonnie http://norfolk.craigslist.org/cto/4157940285.html

Help to Identify Flywheel by Bolt Pattern

I did a scrounge mission to Maryland last week and came up with an 8BA flywheel that I can't identify. I don't have pressure plates to compare to the pattern and have done my due diligence through the archives here, but no help. It is a Ford pattern with three paired holes. The paired holes...

    Crab Distributor Rebuild

I recently rebuilt a '42-'46 distributor that was definitely a learning experience. Yes, I appreciate BUBBA'S work and have a SBC Mallory YC for him to do his magic on in the future, but I decided to do this one myself -- I mean how hard could it be? This is an exceptionally clean...

    Ol' Ron and cam thrust

I caught this comment from you from an earlier thread: "Time to start checking this "Stuff". Don't forget to check cam end play, I have a stock 8bA on the stand with .022" end play. Have to put a shim behind the distributor gear." So what are your insights on cam thrust on the 8BA? How much...
