    Tool purchase advice

I am looking for a wheel bearing packer. I bought a metal unit in the $20 range, and it's garbage. Grease squishes everywhere except into the bearing. Any brand preferences out there?

    Radiator flow rate

Is there an accepted seconds measure for a radiator to drain it's contents? By this, I mean fill the radiator to the top while holding my hand over the bottom pipe. Remove my hand and count the seconds to a full drain.

Why do you like your car.

I don't mean, because "Your dad had one", or "My grand kids bought it for me". I mean the pure styling aspect of your car. What styling cue drew you to the specific body style you own. Like: you really like the landau bars on a Sport coupe, or the low profile top of a Deluxe Phaeton turns your...

Roadster pickup panel cab to box

There is a sheet metal panel that goes between the cab and the box to keep the dust down. It is fastened to the frame. Does somebody have a picture as to how this piece is mounted?

Sound deadening in a roadster door

I have a new Brookville door. What do you guys use for a sound deadner? I was thinking of shooting some "Great Stuff" in through the little holes on the inner panel, but am concerned it will expand too much in some places and make trouble with the outer skin. Thoughts?

Found a short, here is what it was...

My car stopped running three times this morning, each time blowing the fuse. After extensive wiggling, probing and checking, I found my metal conduit tube shorting against a flag terminal end in the junction box. I have heard of this before, just never experienced it. I thought I would pass it...

    '30-'31 Roadster Pickup Windshield Stanchions

I am starting the restoration of a '31 RPU, and the stanchions that came in a box of parts are chrome with windwing bracket holes. If I am not mistaken, mine are to be black and not have the wings. I am also assuming they will be standard roadster length and not shorter deluxe roadster size. My...

    unusual head torque issue

Not really an issue, just curious. I have a fresh rebuild with a 5.5 head initially torqued to 60 lbs. Ran it once and got some good heat through it, cooled off completely and went to re torque the nuts. Unlike a dozen times before on various engines, the nuts held they're torque. I pulled up to...

    shift tower question

Is the long key-way in this shaft a production necessity, or does it serve some other purpose?

    Newer engine internals

My engine had some vibration issues, so I took it to Rich Faluka in Skokie for a full rebuild. It had 600 miles on it from the previous build by somebody else. I have 40 over pistons, rods with babbit, and adjustable lifters. It does not appear that any of these parts have much value, despite...

    Hub cap fit

The car I am working on (Sept. '28) had early '28 wheels for the left hand brake set up. They did not seat against the drums. I now have the correct wheels. The issue is, when I mount the wheel on the brake drum, the axle end pushes the hubcap off. Same later hubcaps, which fit fine before. Drum...

    Shifter fork alignment

I am doing a shift tower seminar for my local club, and have a question about a car I drove some years back. When I went to second, the gear was pushed too far and went into another neutral, if you get my meaning. Pull back on the lever a little, and the car would proceed in second like it...

    Your wheel painting technique

My powder coat guy is out of business and I find myself in the position where I am going to have to paint some wheels. I have access to a wheel spinner and may build my own as well. So, how do you get in behind the spoke at the hub end? Any other tips on painting wheels, and kindly describe your...

    Snap ring removal tips please

On the transmission input shaft, there is a snap ring about a quarter inch wide that holds the bearing onto the shaft. My brother held it open with a pair of needle nose pliers while I stuck a little screw driver behind it for removal. There has got to be an easier way that does not require...

    21 inch rim repair

I was trying to salvage a straight 21" wheel with pin holes in the inner rim, but kept blowing holes through it, even with my welder turned way down. I can JB weld it after my powder coat guy is done, but media blasting will likely deposit a lot of material inside that rim. How do you guys fix...

    AA Transmission

Screwy question; has anybody tried to put an AA trans into a passenger car frame? Creeper gear in a sedan would probably be useless, but interesting.

    Clam shell question

The finger on the upper shell half is right on the frame cross member. It is the first time I have actually seen this shell version on a car, so I don't know what proximity it should be from that frame section. Could this be indicative of frame sag? The rear engine mounts are stock and all the...

Identify a Ford key tag please

A friend picked up a Ford Motor Company tag and would like it identified. I could think of no better place than this forum to try to do that. It reads; Ford 59664 Store Non-transferable What say you experts? Maybe a factory tool room?
