    Bad weekend

I got t-boned by a stop sign runner yesterday. She hit my passenger side rear wheel and it sent the back end up in the air and I rolled the car. Everyone is OK but I am wondering if you think the body is too far gone for repair or should I just look for a new body/car.

    Cutout sticking

I have an original script cutout and it sticks sometimes after shutting the ignition off. It seems to be worse if I have the generator turned up for night driving. It has always released by itself, but takes up to a minute or so. I have opened it up and filed the contacts clean but this didn't...

King's A's in Novato, CA, anyone heard of them?

I have been going through some receipts of my dad's from when he had some work done on my '29 Coupe. My dad bought some cast brake drums from King's and I was just wondering what brand they might be. The part numbers listed are A1125 & A1126 which is the same as all the parts vendors. The...

Taking up the mains and rods

I've got about 2K miles on it now and I think I can hear a faint rod knock under a no load condition. I also have a pretty good oil leak at the rear main. I'm just wondering what the best/easiest way to get this accomplished. Should I adjust everything with the engine in the car or pull the...

Adding a Dome Light to a '29 Coupe

I know its not original, but I'd like to add a dome light to my '29 coupe before I install the interior and I have a couple of questions. Does anyone have a picture of the placement of the wood block for the dome light? I'm not sure of the orientation or placement of the wood block. How is...

Lugging the engine in 3rd gear

At what speed is considered 'lugging' the engine in 3rd gear? I know that it's not good to lug these engines but, if I can't downshift into 2nd until 15 or 20 mph, is it ok to run in 3rd at 20mph? Just trying to keep the babbit in this thing. I rode in someone elses car and they seemed to lug...

    Condensor Problems

I went for a drive in the mountains today and I discovered what a bad condensor will do to the runability of your car. It misses, sputters, coughs, backfires, no power etc...... I drove up the mountain without any problems and had good (for a stock A) power. Stopped for lunch and when I started...

    Cleaning the crankcase

My car had the engine rebuilt in the mid 70's and has very few miles on it. I got the car from my father and it was ran every couple of years at best. Disappearing Threads

I replied to a thread about a comparision of Brumfield and Snyder heads since the Brumfield heads are not available. I must have annoyed someone because the last time I looked, the thread was closed and now it is missing entirely. I have not noticed any other threads missing. Is this common...

    Noisy Transmission

I finally have my '29 Coupe running and stopping. This car was restored in the early 70's and was not driven very much, (2000 miles or so) It had been sitting for 7-8 years without being run before I got it. I went through the fuel system, cooling system and brakes. Now that I'm able to drive...

    Rear Brake Backing Plate Question

I'm installing the rear backing plates with the brakes shoes and emergency housing and I'm having trouble getting the arms through the hole and the assembly on the axle. There must be a trick that I'm missing. I followed Les Andrews book and assembled everything before installing on the axle...

    Rear axle play

I'm in the process of going through the brakes on my '29 Coupe. When I got the rear backing plates off I noticed that I can move the axle about 3/16" or so up and down on the drivers side and a little less on the passanger side. This does not seem right to me and am looking for any thoughts on this.
