    1959 Galaxie Headlights

I have questions about the headlight wiring and operation on a 1959 Galaxie which has 4 headlights. Which side does the 3 wire plug on on? Inner or outer? Do both lights stay on during high beam operation or just the high beam and the other is off. Which side is the high beam? Thanks for any reply.

    '59 Fuel Pump Issue

The fuel pump on my '59 Galaxie 292 cu in will no longer pump fuel. This is the double one that also operates the wipers. After searching the archives here it's apparent there are no rebuild kits available and the made in China ones are junk. Some have used an electric pump to push fuel to the...

    Crud in carb bowl

Anyone else have a problem with deposits in carb bowl after it sits for awhile? I rebuilt my carb about 1 year ago. Gas tank looks clean inside and inline filter was installed. Fresh gas in tank. The car is not on the road yet so it's started only to move it for repair work. I could not keep it...

    Under hood Insulation

I assume my 59 Galaxie had insulation under the hood at one time. Does it need to be replaced? If so with what? I'm not making a "show car" just a driver so I really don't care about the appearance.

    Spark Plug Wires

After ordering wires 2 times from local parts stores and having them totally wrong length I need some recommendations for the correct ones. I have a '59 Galaxie with 292 engine. Everything is stock.

    Strange 292 head problem

I removed the heads from another engine and had them reworked at the machine shop. I was installing them today and ran into something I had not experienced before. On the drivers side head the top holes in the head do not exactly line up with the threaded holes in the block. The bolts drag...

    Spark Plugs

I thought I read somewhere that a 292 with points and a resistor should use non resistor plugs. Seems the recommended plug for this engine is Autolite 46 which is listed as a resistor plug. What about wires? Resistor or not. I've read quite a few discussions about plugs but have not seen this...

    Post machine shop head check

Got my heads back today. Inverted them on the bench with spark plugs installed and filled chambers with paint thinner. After about 5 min. there was seepage from most of the valves. After about 30 min. there was still liquid covering the valves so the leak isn't too bad. Should there be any...

    Rocker Arm Shafts

I have rocker arm shafts from 2 sets of 292 heads. One has screwdriver adjusted adjustment screws with lock nuts and the other uses 7/16 wrench adjusted bolts which are hard to turn and no lock nuts. They both are in about the same condition. Will one stay adjusted better than the other?

    Head Bolts

I am installing 1955 heads (ECL) on a 1959 block. When I removed the '55 heads from the ECG block all of the long bolts were the same length. The bolts on the '59 block had 2 long ones on the ends. Headbolts.com indicates the heads dictate which bolts to use. So should I use all 4.06" bolts on...

    Torque Wrenches

How does everyone maintain the accuracy of their torque wrench? I've had mine for quite a few years and have no idea how accurate it is. From what I've seen on the net is costs more to get one calibrated than a new one. I saw how some people hang a weight on the handle and using a math formula...

    Water in oil

I have a 1959 Galaxie with a 292 engine which I bought last year. I removed the intake to replace 2 bent push rods. It appeared to be very clean inside. It has not been on the road yet. I have only been driving it from the garage to the house for rust repair. I do let it run long enough for it...

    1959 Ford 500 and Galaxie

I have a 1959 Galaxie 4 door sedan. I know the rear glass is different but will the other body parts and glass exchange with a 1959 Ford 500 4 door sedan?

    Holes in SS trim

Unfortunately the previous owner fastened some of the stainless steel trim with screws. Anyone have experience with repairing the holes?

    Transmission problem

I have a 59 Galaxie with a 2 speed automatic. I have only driven it around the neighborhood a few times just to see if everything works. I have noticed when I start it in park it seems to slightly lunge forward. Same thing when I rev the engine. It doesn't move much but it seems the trans. in...

    Drain holes in new rockers

I'm replacing the rockers on my '59 Galaxie. Being as they are welded only at the top edge and bottom. I am planning on priming and painting most of the inside. Should I drill holes in the bottom for water to drain if any gets in there? I also plan on going in from the front and rear with a wand...

    Cut off wheel thickness

I recently purchased 3 boxes of cut off wheels. None of them are even close to being the thickness they advertise. 3" ones by 3M are stamped .035... they are actually .046. Another (brand X) are stamped .040 are actually .060. One box of 4.5" ones by DeWalt are stamped .045 and are actually...

    Body to frame bushings

I have checked all over the internet for body to frame bushings for my '59 Galaxie with no luck. I was told by a rep. from Dennis Carpenter that a '59 is a one of a kind and they don't have them. Same thing everywhere. Anyone have any suggestions on where I can find them? It seems everyone skips...

    Plugged holes in floor

While replacing some flooring in my '59 Galaxie I noticed there is a hole with a rubber plug on each front pan. What are they for? You only see the top of the frame when you look through. Any reason I need to add the hole to the new floor.
