My'46 heater core has sprung a leak. Since I store the car in winter , I'd like to just have the coolant bypass the heater but leave it in place under the dash. Hotter Plug?

Any advantage to using a hotter plug than Champion H-10 in a rather tired 59A? Plugs are currently very black although electrodes are not burnt and I don't know how old they are so I thought I'd just replace them. Also, could a hotter plug do any harm and what would a good replacement plug be...

'55 Fairlane 3-speed gear shift knob.

I'm looking at a nice '55 Fairlane, older restoration, and thinking about buying it. It has a round, ping-pong-ball-sized gear shift knob on the 3-0n-tree. That doesn't seem right to me. Weren't they originally elliptical, sort of rounded and elongated? Thanks, Dan

Thanks to all who offered advice on my "oil pan full of goop." The pan is coming off next week. My next question: What if any adaptation must be made to put a 255 c.i. Merc engine into my Ford? I'm thinking you just pull the Ford engine out and stick the Merc in but I thought I'd ask. Again...

    Oil pan full of goop

Hi guys, I'm back on the Forum after an 8-year hiatus. Just bought a nice '52 with the original flatty, allegedly " rebuilt " at some point. Drove it home about 50 miles at 60 mph. It ran strong, cool and smooth with good oil pressure all the way and I felt very relieved since I really was a...
