    Valve problem

I have an issue with an exhaust valve that just started sticking. This is a new build that has about 30 miles on it. Has been running great. At 1500 rpm, the lifter starts clattering and the engine misses. I can goose it and it quiets down. No noise at idle. Ran a compression check this morning...

A big shout out to Chassis Engineering for a refund check because they found a cheaper way to ship my order. Now, that's the way a business needs to be run to look out for the customer for a change. Thanks guys! Ed

    59AB into a 36

If you are going to put a 59AB engine in a 36, here is the hose combo that fits. Upper: Gates 21253 Lower: Gates 20151 If you are going to run an alternator, here is the belt to use with the fan mounted alternator: NAPA 22545 The 46-48 fan will not work because of the radiator tilt...

    Better starter button II

Well Henry, I hope your E-bay starter button purchase lasts longer than my NAPA SBT5. A nice internal spark show and mine was toast on the first spin. It locked up and I had to remove the battery cable to shut it off. Used a remote switch I had here to get it fired up. What's plan B? Ed

    Broken part

Any idea where I might find one of these? This holds the vacuum line to the intake manifold on a 46 engine and is the vacuum hookup for the windshield wiper. Any idea what the part number is? Another one of those "oh crap" moments! Thanks, Ed

    Building a 12 volt starter

Last year Ronnie posted the following information on how to build a 12 volt starter. Here are some pics of the two starters: 6 volt for my 36 and a 12 volt from a 60's 390 cu. in. Ford. The case, back plate and the armature all have the same dimensions for both, so it will be a simple switch...

    Upper radiator hose adapter

Here is the adapter to go from a 2 inch hose to a 1 3/4 inch. This particular application is for a 59A into a 36. The Edelbrock head requires a 1 3/4 inch connection. Part # 902 at NAPA at $7.79 per. Ed

Comparison of Ford and Edelbrock Aluminum Heads

Here is a comparison of a NOS Ford 21 stud aluminum head with the new Edelbrock head that is going on my 46 engine. I think the compression on the Ford head was about 6 to 1 and the Edelbrock is about 8 to 1. Ed

    Flywheels

I am putting a '46 engine in my '36 and the flywheel that was in the car has a better clutch surface than the one that came out of the 46. Both use 10 inch clutch plates. Can the earlier flywheel be used in the later engines? Thanks, Ed

    Block ID

Just picked up a block yesterday. This came out of a 1939 1 ton truck. The center holes (top triangular and the bottom two round) would indicate a 45-48 block but it is a 221 engine which would indicate a 1939 era block. It has 59 on the top of the bell housing. The exhaust manifolds also look...

Exhaust plug for the intake passage

Is there any kind of material that could be placed in the exhaust passage that crosses over through the intake? That's a big hole going from the exhaust valve chamber to that passage. That would eliminate one source of heat going into the water jacket. Will the plug (penny) do the same thing by...
