    Towing with a car dolly?

Can I safely to my 36 with a car dolly, or do I need to use a trailer or flatbed? Factory 3-speed. I know some vehicles are not recommended to be towed with the transmission in neutral and the drive wheels rotating. Lubrication problems when the input shaft is not spinning. Thanks, all.

    Spare Tire - Stupid Question

Um, How do I get the spare tire off of my '36 Tudor Sedan? It does not have a key lock. The hinged center of the tire cover opens and reveals what looks like a split cone with a spring. I'm stuck. I'll post a few photos. Thanks

    United Engine Specialists? Jerry Livingston

I found a couple posts referencing these guys, especially Mr Livingston. Any other feedback on them? I'm thinking of having them build my engine. It's an outright purchase so I don't have to hunt down a good block, usable crank, etc. Prices are very reasonable for a 59AB built as requested...

    Vintage Car Values?

What price guides are the most accurate for vintage car values? Particularly in the '32 - '40 range. Are the NADA guides fairly accurate. I know an item is worth whatever the market will bear, but I'm looking for something relatively accurate.

    1936 Shop Manual?

Is there a service or shop manual for the early Fords, specifically the 1936 I have? We have decided to keep the mechanical brakes, so I'm looking for a detailed procedure for adjusting them. I haven't taken a close look yet, so maybe it will be blatantly obvious what's going on down there...

    Wet Sleeves?

I'm assuming this can be done and what I heard wasn't tongue in cheek. Anyone have this operation done on their engine? Pros and Cons? Max displacement with a 4.25" crank? If you have to bore anyhow, how much more work/cost to go with wet sleeves? Only considering this after reading a...

    Cracked Block

Just a quick update. Block is a 59A Stopped by the machine shop to see where my projects stood (and to separate me from some folding money;)). No photos. Had the company truck so I couldn't bring the block home. The crack runs from the middle of the cylinder wall up to the deck, over to and...

    "Cheater Heads"

Any advantage other than weight savings (and taking a nice polish;))?

    Starting Over - Cracked Block

Well, there goes a lot of sweat and a few bucks. Dis-assembled the 59A that came with the '36 I have and it's worth what I was afraid it was worth. Scrap. Cracked cylinder. So it's off to look for another. The crank is .040"/.040" under, too. At least I got a good cam core and a set of...

Reading Spark Plugs - Long Post

After getting fuel back to the carb I took the '36 on a little highway run. Maybe 15 miles at 60-70 mph. Had to stop at a couple red lights, and drove the 1/2 mile home through a residential neighborhood before shutting down, so it's not going to be the best indication. Used to run the bikes...

    'Twas deteriorated gasket material...

The stalling, hard re-start, and rough running I experienced last weekend appears to have been caused by a deteriorated sediment bowl gasket. Looks like it was made from some type or reinforced cork. It fell apart and the pieces floated to the top and blocked off the outlet screen. The...

    Shifter Housing Parts

I picked up a "double-detent" shifter housing for my '36 to try and remedy my second gear shifter kick-out woes. Any place to get parts? Van P doesn't list some of the pieces I'm looking for. Maybe just call them since they are in Ohio? The "housing guide pin" is bent. I figure after 70...

    Radio Schematics

The radio in my '36 does not work. Anyone have a schematic, or a link to one? I do some work on old tube guitar amps, so I'm pretty sure I can resurrect it without too much trouble. I'd like a drawing before I go tearing into it, though.

Miss at Cruising, Stall, and hard Re-Start

This hasn't happened on this car before. I have driven it on several "shakedown" runs of 10 miles or so. Combined residential and highway streets. Other than the very first run or two, when it hadn't run in who knows how long (I was told about 18 months), it has run OK. Never pulled hard...

Which Carbs - Dual Carb Setup?

I'm slowly accumulating pieces and parts for the 59A that will go in my '36 Tudor at some time in the future... I picked up an Edelbrock Super Dual with generator mount for a sweet price. Is there any real difference between carbs? I know some models will require boring the manifold. Any...

    Juice Brake Kit

My '36 came with a full juice brake conversion kit from Early V8 Garage. Not installed. I've been driving the car as is, and other than some rattle from the brake rods (I think they may hit the exhaust pipes when going around curves and hitting bumps), I really don't think the mechanical...

    More Stud Hole Questions

I didn't want to add to the other thread, so I started this one. The reason I'm asking I believe the donor block I have may be scrap. Thankfully it was almost free. Several studs are broken off in the block (some by me:o, some were already that way), and several of the broken studs were...

Need a pair of Wide 5s

I need a pair of 16" Wide 5s for my '36 I don't care about the rims as long as the centers are good. Thanks

Ford Wide 5 vs VW Wide 5 Wheels

Are Ford Wide 5 wheels the same pattern as VW Wide 5s? VWs are listed as 5x205 I assume 205mm diameter bolt circle. I found wide five to standard Ford adapters, but they are listed as VW to Ford, not Ford to Ford. If these adapters will work it's a lot easier than having wheels custom made...

    Safety/Tempered Glass

When did they start putting safety glass and/or tempered glass in cars? My ride is a '36. If I have safety glass and tempered glass should there not be some kind of marking on it somewhere? This car gets driven a bit and will be driven a lot more once all the bugs are out. If need be I'll...
