    Need 29 Sedan measurements please

Hey guys, I'm hoping someone out here has body dimensions for my 29 Tudor Sedan. Body is all stock, no wood involved. I'm particularly interested in left-right measurements above the roof edges and getting my door alignments right. My right side front-roof area is splayed out some, windshield...

I need a little help on my '29 Sedan body bracing please

Good morning, I'm assembling my stock, unchopped '29 Sedan and at the point where I want the body stiff and removable from the frame. I have original subrails. I have the doors mounted and tacked shut to keep things square and can work around that fine enough. There's a vertical piece from...

Best distibutor choice for my 1948 59AB?

My friend gave me an early distributor, has the two caps on it, think its 33-36 era. Pretty neat setup, 3 bolt mounting, coil mounts in it.... I also have my stock crab style. 1948, 2 bolt mounting.... My question is this: What distributor setup would be best for daily street driving, can it...

Wiring up a Columbia 2-speed rear end?

Not mine, but a friend's Columbia. In a '41 Ford. There's a vacuum switching valve with two solenoids on it. My question: Is this activated by a momentary SPST switch, or a standard SPST switch? In other words, do the solenoids need to stay energized to keep the vacuum routed correctly? We...

On both sides of mine, the front two exhaust manifold studs are larger than the others. Normal, or did someone drill and rethread? Thanks! John

    The Flathead oil modification thread...

Hey all. After extensively reading Merc Cruiser's thread and gaining knowledge and confusion, I thought I'd start this thread. Tonight I modified my 1948 59a flathead. I followed the directions found here .. www.flatheadv8.org/filter.htm Went well, took my time and am happy so far. I have a...

Adding extra keyways in banjo axles

Has it been done? If not, why not? I was reading a thread and the broken axle key situation came up, and was thinking why not have 3 evenly spaced key slots per axle? Seems like most any machine shop could do that. Good idea? Bad idea?

    Flathead water jackets question...

So I've always been told that flats sometimes come with genuine Ford casting sand stuck in the bottom of the water jackets. I cleaned mine out last week (real basic at the pressure car wash) and can see down through the large passages clear to a clean bottom. Am I just lucky, or not seeing it...

I thought my 48 flathead was a virgin block...

After disassembling it, and seeing "Ford" stamped on pistons and valves, and everything safety-wired, I thought maybe I was the first one in there. I guess not. After a basic steam clean, and a quick deck scrubbing, I find stamped random letters in the surfaces, and a couple spots where small...

    59A rear main seal upgrade?

Was wondering if anyone ever went to a modern 1-piece seal back there? My flathead is a 1948. I hate stuff that leaks! Thanks!

    Removing flathead head studs........

Got some out, fairly easy so far. You guys reusing them, or going new? Dumb question, I assume a new stud kit is available and decently priced. I'm just prepping the block for the molasses bath. Thanks!

    Model A rear gearing questions...

Hey all, I just inherited two really clean complete A rear diffs. One seems to be 3.75 ratio, other seems to be 3.50 ratio if I measured accurately. Are these just average? Not sure what I want to do with them, already have a '48 truck rear for my A Sedan. They have the stock brakes on them...

Casting sand in Flathead coolant passages?

I've heard that these engines were known to have a layer of casting sand left in the bottom of the water jackets, which helped them overheat. Is this true? I'm sure if it is true, it would be a hard-packed mess, and molasses soaking wouldn't touch it. Any thoughts on this? I did a search on here...

Looking for a '48 Flathead daily driver build recipe

Hey all. I'm new to the flathead world, and picked up a 1948 59AB for my '29 Sedan. I've done the search feature, studied, etc... here's what I know so far... My engine disassembled VERY easy, appears to be original. One bent con rod, cracked piston. 3 rings on each piston with a fourth below...

    Roller cam / lifters for a 59AB?

Wondering if such a thing exists? I'll be building a daily driver 59AB someday soon, and seems like this might be a good way to go. Keeps me out of the low-zinc mess... Thanks!

    Flathead oil canister question...

Hello All! I've recently picked up a 1947 59AB for my '29 Sedan, and was cleaning out the old, corroded oil canister. Cleaned up well, but seems that the mounting bolt at the top has a check valve in it. Is that the case? It doesn't move, and the threads are shot. The canister's female threads...
