I used the speedway kit on my 48 merc coupe but I had to use stronger shocks. I think I had to use 120 pound shocks. I can take pictures if you desire.

john, in my 48 merc I used the rear end from a 99 mercury mountaineer, they are within a half inch of stock and if you look around many of the 4wd models are posi and have disc brakes. just a thought. tom1948

If you bought it from a reputable dealer call them and see what they have to say, otherwise I would bite the bullet and buy another one. That would be much easier than trying to fit the ring gear back on only to have it happen again and leave you sitting out in the boondocks. just a thought from...

first, check that the end of the crank is not bent( use a dial indicator) turn the engine over by hand. second, check the diameter of the crank end to be sure it's in spec. off the top of my head seem to be the most likely causes. maybe some time in the past the crank got dropped or the keyway...

I do most of the mechanical, I can't do any welding anymore (pacemaker). I did do almost everything and after 18 pain procedures on my back I'm really limited, but it's my own fault. I'm glad you're only young and stupid once.:D:p

does anyone on this forum know where I could possibly find the headliner retainer(?) strips. these are the ones that go around the door and the A and B pillars. the car is a 1948 Mercury sedan coupe. thanks all Tom
