oil in coolant on 40 ford

Awhile back I installed an overflow plastic tank on my 1940 ford Four door flathead. System works great, system is still no pressure, but overflow tank allows me to completely fill the radiator and has prevented spills. The tank is semi clear white plastic. I have noticed a very small amount...

1940 ignition lock cylinder and key

Good job by 32phil. I located some 3/8-24 set screws 3/8" long with a brass tip, like a dog nose set screw. Its onlinemetals.com. Nice folks to work with. These set screws are perfect to hold the ign cylinder in place. part number mp-00066386

1940 ignition lock cylinder and key

I am wrapping up my 1940 four door project, and am finally working on the ignition lock cylinder and key. After close examination, it is clear that someone before me has drilled out the retaining plug/pin, using the correct drill for a 3/8-24 set screw. I have tapped the hole successfully...

Gave up on getting a Mitchell overdrive. Shifted to getting a Columbia from John Connelly. 6 to 8 week delivery, has all parts I need.

mitchel overdrive for 40 four door

I have looked into going the 5 speed manual transmission route, and don't like that option very well compared to the slick Mitchell approach. Wish there was a better or easier way to get this moving.

mitchel overdrive for 40 four door

Mitchell is very hard to get in touch with. They never answer the phone, I am getting frustrated, wondering if it is a good idea to do business with someone as hard to reach as them. Any thoughts? I have been on the waiting list now for 1 year plus, got one call back a couple weeks ago, asked...

    slooppy steering

My 40 four door steering is sloppy. Driving down the road I need to work the wheel more than I would like. I had a mechanic try to make an adjustment on the top of the steering box but he was unable to get a full notch. Balance of steering gear is in good condition so I feel the problem is in...

1940 driver door control, remote link

Very enlightening. Thanks. Now I understand why there is an outboard gap between the door and the vent rubber at the bottom of the vent. I discover the vent rubber doesn't cover the gap. Passenger side all is well. To fill the gap I found a product from Steele rubber that is a hollow square...

1940 driver door control, remote link

While installing the metal blocks for sholder strap seat belts in the pillar between the doors, I discovered that the PILLER had been cut out and replaced. There was weld that prevented me from getting the block in from the bottom as I had done on the passenger side, (which I had done first.)...

1940 four door drivers side frontdoor latch control arm

I am looking for the Control, front door remote for the driver's side front door on my 1940 ford four door deluxe. It is part number 01A-7921819. this Assy. connects the inside door handle to the latch in the door, and the inside door handle attaches to it. The arm is about 12" long. see pix...

1940 driver door control, remote link

I have discovered the pins that hold the door handle and window cranks on are 0.134" dia, and rod stock is available from Granger. 1/8" roll pins too small, fall through. 8D nails are about 0.010 too small. I also have discovered on this car the outside door handles on the driver side are...
