On my '31 I just bought I was giving it a once over and went to make sure the axle nuts were torqued properly. They were just slightly snug and the cotter pins were holding them from backing off. When I tighten the nuts up the drums are too tight to turn. What is the problem?
Mr. Rogers...Thanks for the suggestions on the tinfoil and everyone else that replied. As you can see from the photos the engine maybe fresh but whoever did the babbit work should be banned from doing this kind of work! The clearance was .006 but the thrust was good at .004. Had a friend come...
Here are a few pictures of the engine. The crank appears to be new but might be stock (i'm used to the little thing in my T).
I used a mirror in the bellhousing and the back of the cam gasket is dry. Oil drain tube is clear. The only thing I noticed is there was no permatex use don the gasket or...
Just bought a '31 Deluxe that was well restored. When I checked it out everything was fine. Now after the first drive it is pumping oil out of the rear main area and coming out of the hole in the bell housing. The inspection plate was almost dry. I pulled the pan and saw the drain pipe is in...
I'm doing the same with my '26. Full mechanical rebuild but leaving the exterior looking the way it is. Just not sure what I should apply to the body on this one.
I called Mark in Warsaw, he said he is quite busy but will take the block in mid-October. He said the same thing, do all three and check the trans bearing. I am going to have him do the bearings, set the crank and a bore & hone. I will do the rest from there.
Thanks for the advice.
Just mocked up my motor last night and the No1 & No2 mains are perfect, No3 is wiped out and has about a 1/16" of clearance and .040 thrust. Can I just get No3 redone or do I do all? How expensive and most of all where do I take it? Hoping to find a person in Westewn New York that does this. I...
I'm just glad it's not getting hacked into a rat rod. That was the sellers only concern that I would not cut it up. He had higher offers but would not sell because they said it would be cut up.
Thanks for the advice, I ordered the books this morning and should have a better idea of what needs to be done.
-Farmallcub49-Didn't see your post before I ordered, just sent you a PM...Thanks
I'm getting ready to rebuild my first Model T engine and can't seem to find anything on torque or tolerances on any website or a book on this. The block I have is standard bore and there is no ridge or taper on the cylinders but it will to be bored since no.#1 cylinder leaked and it is pitted...
I was hoping I could find one local to study. This thing is so foreign compared to the Mustangs i have always worked on, I'll need to take some pictures.
Thanks for the offer, I will take you up on that in a few weeks.
Brought the T home last night, what an adventure. Two days 1,640 miles from Buffalo NY to Missouri and back. Spent all day today sorting parts and get a game plan and list together to order. My wife absolutely loves it.
Not a hole in the body, all the floor are original and solid. Numbers match...
