    1941 Merc V8 Oil Change

My Mercury Reference book says my 41 should hold 5 quarts. Oil was near low end of dipstick mark last night, so I decided to pick up some 10W30 today and start fresh with new oil. I had never changed it but does not get many miles. Only ran long enough to back it out of the garage so it was...

    new tires from Coker

I actually bought the Goodrich 6.50-16s because I liked the overall look a bit better. In the test drive I did not notice any issues, sort of hate to mess with em unless something develops.

    new tires from Coker

I installed four new tires on the 41 Mercury today. Nice whitewalls from Coker, look pretty sharp. Glad I spent the extra money for whitewalls, even though the car probably ran with blackwalls thru the war. Lots of work but I got it done. I did not see any balance weights. But always...

    41 horn wiring

I think all the parts are there on my 41 mercury but the wheel is painted under the horn ring. Is it supposed to be a bare area for the ring to contact? Horn blows if I touch wire to bare area of the steering wheel, but the ring cannot seem to find a ground. I could not figure out what the...

    battery ground on 49 F3

The ground cable on the 49 had multiple issues so I was going for upgrade, Pulled the head bolt and got a geyser of coolant. Not as simple a swap as I thought. Tightened her back up for now. I hate to ground to head bolt. But the old 6V starter needs the best chance it can get. Thought...

    Horns - 6 to 12 volt

I was thinking about the .3 to .6 ohm resistor to see how it works on the 41. Those big horns look so neat I want to try and keep them working. Was going to try them at 6v and try to measure the current draw just to make sure the resistor is reasonable. If the current flow is as high as I...

    Fun with 41 Mercury

good progress on lights. All outside lamps working. gauge lights working but ignition lamp is wired to headlamp side of switch rather than park lamp, needs a wire swapped. The big horns look so neat I got to get em hooked up. Steering wheel about 180 degrees off, need to check where to...

    '47 Mercury -- Fuse Box?

i just bought the previous version of that Green Shop Manual and it was very helpful for my 41 Mercury. I found an owners manual/ reference manual thru MACs that was specific to Mercury line but it is pretty basic, not much detail.

    Fun with 41 Mercury

I can imagine Grandpa Dean looking down at all the days events and smiling. Maybe in some way he was 'lending a hand' the whole time making sure the ol girl made it to Indiana, then started and behaved that day.

    12 volt questions and misc

As I go thru my 41 Mercury. I wanted to see what I can get by with on 12 volt without damage. Will the big dual horns be OK or should I leave them disconnected/ drop resistor, etc ? There is a rheostat in box for the heater fan, will that do the job as loang as I keep it on the low side...

    Fun with 41 Mercury

tires are something I need to look at. I think he bought em in 1996 if I am reading the marking correctly. 6.00x16 tube type. Sidewall says Columbia Deluxe. If they really are that old should I be looking for a new set next spring? Probably have less than 1000 miles on em and always kept...

    Fun with 41 Mercury

She is in my front garage now and my Explorer 'V8' sits out. We have unusually good weather and I am hoping to have her out a few times more for fun before I pull her in for a long winter of 'improvements'. I am really impressed with all the information on this site to help.
