    Remove crankshaft pulley

By gorry, Karl, that worked slick. Used an old Ford tire iron, hit it 4 or 5 times in about 3 places, not too hard, and it slid right ahead and the pan dropped right down. Many thanks. Karl was my grandfather's name so I figured your advice would be solid. Fred

Ooops. Forgot to mention it's a '36 engine, in the car.

    Remove crankshaft pulley

How do I slide the pulley off the end of the crankshaft - any safe slick tricks? Thanks. Fred

    Some preliminary advice

Thank you, Davis J and Uncle Bub. I do remember reading something about the 3" and 3 1/4" difference but didn't recall where to measure. I'll check the throwout bearing area on the bell housing also. Have you any hints about raising the motor far enough to be able to drop the pan?

    Some preliminary advice

Thanks a lot, MrBruce! It's been snowing here since Saturday night and the temperature hasn't gone above 12 degrees. Fortunately not a lot of accumulation but enough snow in the face to last me awhile.

    Some preliminary advice

Before trying to start my '32 Fordor with a '36 motor, I want to drop the pan and clean it out, check the oil pump and see if it's really an LB (haven't found any letters stamped on the block under the intake manifold). Can some of you chime in on the easiest way to do this? I've read up on...

Has anybody dealt with Chris Talley Auto Spares in Magnolia, AR? If so, what do you think? Thanks, Fred

    5w30?

Thanks, Kube. I'll spring for something thicker.

    5w30?

Thanks to both of you - I'll go with fresher, thicker stuff.

    5w30?

Being part Scot, I'd like to use some 5W30 oil that has been on the shelf for a while in a '36 engine (not a rebuild) that I've never run. Will that be acceptable or should I not be so frugal (notice I didn't say cheap) and spend the big bucks for some fresh 10W30 or 20W50? Thanks, Fred

"Tis a puzzlement, at least to me

A stuck valve it was! Number one - not bad - it freed up easy. Many thanks to all who responded. Fred
