I heated the ring in the kitchen oven and put the flywheel in the freezer after cleaning off all oils. The easiest install I witnessed is when dad heated a ring in the big kiln we had in the garage at the time.
There might be strips of felt/tar paper between floorboard and sheetmetal to cut down on squeaks, and over time the tar has stuck. I put roofing felt strips in that same place to reduce squeaks and it helps
This is my 29 roadster but should be the same on a 31. The cone is on the windshield frame, and the stanchion has a cup that it seats into. I have been having the same problem with the bottom of the windshield pushing inwards, and it was rather alarming this last weekend driving home from a...
I visited an Auto museum in the vicinity of Chiemsee years ago. Every car had a sign listing horsepower (expressed as PS) and top speed. What surprised me was the early Ford V8 models 1932-1934, which were probably imported from America, had a higher top speed than most of the big German car...
Drilling the heads off will leave a short stub sticking out that can be grabbed with vice grips. Redrilling and tapping the bracket is still an option if the stub can't be unscrewed
The windshield upper pivot won't tighten enough to hold the windshield when tipped out, and barely has enough holding power to keep the bottom from getting pushed in from wind pressure when driving. I had to keep pushing the bottom edge forward while driving in order to keep the rear view...
My electrolysis tank is a garbage bin large enough to submerge over half a front fender. The more anodes you can fit in the tank and the closer they are positioned to the rusty part, the better it works. I made a bunch of jumper wires with alligator clips to connect anodes to the battery...
I first learned to weld on Model A fenders and still believe they are ideal for learning and improving your body working skills. I found a pair of front fenders at the local swap meet 2 years ago that were better than the pair on my 28, but both had dented crowns. One of the dents was about...
I decided to try fabricating a replacement part from steel. Machining the hub on my old SB lathe went quickly. Now comes the challenging part - how to line up little pieces for welding. I chose the risky method of clamping them right in the latch housing with a piece of copper to prevent...
