31 Deluxe Roadster Windshield question

Hi all - I've been reviewing previous threads because the windshield in my 31 deluxe roadster won't stay put - it keeps tilting inward from the bottom. Many responders have indicated that i should shim the wing nuts to make them tighter which I will do. However, many also keep mentioning "cones." Now, I've investigated them at the parts dealers, and I don't see where they are on my windshield, nor where they would even go. Could someone post a pic of them in use - where exactly they go? If I don't have them on the car, I'll get some, but I sure don't see anything that looks like them presently. Thanks!

This is my 29 roadster but should be the same on a 31. The cone is on the windshield frame, and the stanchion has a cup that it seats into. I have been having the same problem with the bottom of the windshield pushing inwards, and it was rather alarming this last weekend driving home from a car show when it pushed up against the steering wheel. I am going to disassemble it and clean off all the paint from the cup & cone mating surfaces and see if that helps.

The cone is inside the cup that is the windshield pivot. It is contoured to fit over the round tubing of the frame. It is what you will be placing shim stock over if you go that route.Look in the vendors parts catalogs, you'll see what they are and what they do.If you didn't have them your windshield would be clanking around and resting on the cowl strip or the gas tank.

@ 40-A Twins - thanks so much! On mine, it appears as though they are molded as part of the frame, that's why I couldn't find them. That clears things up.

@ Keith True - that makes sense, especially now that I know what is being talked about. Off to shim!

Thanks to both of you for taking the time.
