Who makes the best kit to put a c-4 to my 53 Merc. I have a c-4 trans.and stock conv. I would like to keep it 6 volt if i can. Thanks Mike

Flat oMatic will work with 6 volt. You will need Ford truck 1/2 cast
bellhousing or mercury 49 50 1/2 stamped bell houseing. If you need to go with 12 volts, they have a nice gear drive starter.

For the late motor I have used the kit from Speedway for both the C4 and AOD. It has worked well but they only have a 12 volt starter.

i used flat o matic products out of oregon, put my 50 8BA in front of the c-4 and it has never given me any problems.

I just completed the AOD to 8BA install, using Speedway's kit. This is my 2nd use of this kit, and it went well EXCEPT the instructions are not too clear and complete. For example, you need to use 2 block plates to get the starter snout back far enough to clear the flex plate. On the prior install I made a spacer out of .060 aluminum to use with the block plate. All in all, it's a good kit.

There is a guy who posts on here and is my friend whose handle is "Lyle" .He knows about these adapters.James

I had the same problem with the speedway kit ,not a big deal .JMO

I used the speedway kit with a c4 and worked well, starter would hangup some times. There was a local guy that bought a flatomatic kit and sold his car.I bought the kit. There are spacing problems with the crank distance on some engines. They gave me a 1/8 spacer that would allow me the have the touqe convertor bolts to clear the block. If you are keeping 6 volts, "Speedway only uses 12 volt staters".

I have used 2 of Flat-O-Products complete adapter & transmission and they are very helpful. Gene Benson, the owner is always happy to give useful phone help. He prefers phone talk over the computer as there arre lots of details that are not always thought of on a computer e-mail. He also supplies all of the associated parts that you may need. He can also supply a rebuilt C-4 transmission if you need one. He uses the V-8 version as opposeed to the 6 cyl model. You can find him on the internet or call him at 503-364-2934. His internet site has a lot of information that you might want to look at before calling him.
