29 bones,

Your first question was very difficult to understand. Your second one clarifys it a little, but I am still not quite sure how to help you. Any of the model A suppliers should be able to sell you a speedometer cable for your Model A speedometer. A competent speedometer shop should be able to adapt that to whatever it is you are trying to adapt it to. If you do not have a local speedometer shop, perhaps a transmission shop could help you with this as well.

I will have a go.

My 28 speedo has a square hole drive that is just slightly larger than a modern cable.

Mine has a 30/31 gearbox drive, and its square hole is smaller than the 28 speedo end.

I am guessing the gearbox end is 1/8th inch sqaure and the speedo is 9/64 ths.

So, I would say you need one of the specials made up with different squares on each end.

I knew a guy with an MGB who had one small cable end and he got a short length of square hollow brass box section from a hobbyist shop and made a sleeve.

Over the years, and with this model A now, I brazed one smaller end and ground it down to the bigger size,

Working so far.

yes....ok well I get it now.
I know I can buy a stock one on line,I just wanted to know if it was a square drive on the back, and if it was the same drive and a standard spedo....thanks for the help.....

I guess many (?most) of us have never considered putting a GM trans in a Model A . Personally I'm quite happy with the Ford transmission. Karl

If you had an old original cable with the keyed end, you "could" grind/file that end to a square to fit the gm trans.

You would probably have to probably modify or adapt the screw on A housing fitting end to fit.

I have a 30/31 round SW speedo and GM trans. I needed a new cable so I had one made for my application, with the length I needed, and the correct ferrel on each end.
