How do you store all your parts?

More on the joys of utter chaos...I went down to the basement last night to dig out some '32 engine mounts. Did not get deep enough in the open-pit iron mine to find the mounts yet, but on the way I found an original '32 trim and hardware catalog, a jet wrench for Ford 94 carbs, a Snap-on Ford door handle tool, and a perfect V-8 shift knob.
By the time I get down to the box of engine mounts, I may have assembled another '32...
As I mentioned above, if you live in a wilderness of Ford stuff, each trip to the basement is like a day at Hershey...

When I walk into my garage and can't find a 3" by 3" spot to put my mug of tea down, I know it's time to try and tidy up.

Notice I did say "try".

Well Mart, looks like you're gonna have to give one of those habits up, eh? You don't really need tea anyway. :)

Hi all; We just 'helped' a hoader by hanging new 2x4 shelf frames from the ceiling and bolting to the wall studs. It left the floor clear. Newc

This thread and the fact that I need to get another car in my garage have prompted me to do some tidying up. I put up a new shelf, and I'm going to get rid of a table that takes up a lot of space, but never gets used as a workbench because it's covered with the discards and shrapnel of many jobs over the last couple of years. I'll move the tool cabinets closer to the other bench, (the one with the vice), and put some shelves in where the table was. That'll get some more stuff out of the open garage area to make more room.

Mart.

I built shelves out of 2x4 and plywood. I ripped the 6 sheets of plywood in half giving me 32' of shelving, 24" wide and then used 6' 2x4's as support. horizontal 2x4 lagged & glued to wall at 2', 4' & 6' heights. then I notched 2x4's 1-1/2" deep at the same heights. the plywood sits tight to the wall on the ledger boards & fits in the notch for the front supports. I have supports at each end of the plywood & in the middle. 32' of shelves x3 (height), lots of room, but it keeps getting full

From Mart,

Mart, are you starting another project car? I really enjoy the thread you did on the 33 from Kansas. Your setup looks very functional to me.

Cheap or free file cabinets off Craigslist.
I have 1 tall four drawer traditional file and I have 3 four drawer lateral files.
Nice and tidy with the drawers closed, and you can still stack stuff on top.
The stuff inside stays a bit cleaner and its less likely to get damaged while its waiting to get installed.
I have movers dollies under all of them. I can empty out one side of my garage down to the bare floor and drywall in about 10 minutes.
I got 3 of them free and I paid like $20 for the fourth one.

I picked this lateral file up a couple days ago. You're right Scott, it holds a lot of stuff and everything is right at your fingertips when you need to get to it.

First picture is upstairs in garage, second is of the shelving that doubles as ingress/egress for second floor, third is of about 1/4 of first floor of garage. Rest of it is worse.

How do you pass Fire Department inspection.
1/5 VO would not be enough.
Bruce

Never had a fire dept. inspection. It is fairly organized most of the time, even if to the casual observer, it may appear otherwise. Lots of shelving, totes, etc.

What is the 1/5 VO?
