MAC's Auto Parts.

Just placed an order with Joes Antique auto parts on Friday and was in an envelope in my mail box the next day. Order was $20.00 and shipping was $1.50. He is a small business man that knows his product and provides very good service. Oh and he answers the phone and as far as I know he dosen't attend sales meetings.
regards, Don

In addition to Joblots, Joes Antique Auto Parts gets my business. Both are outstanding.

I have to presume the lack of any type of response from the subject vendor tells us there problems are indefensible. It also shows they don't intend to make any policy adjustment. Well, they have a nice catalog anyway.

My first call for ANYTHING & EVERYTHING V8 Ford is Dick Spadaro, if they don't have it they will get it or give you an honest answer as to where to get it. For Model A stuff I use Bratton's.... nice folks, they call if there is any question on your order and they charge actual shipping. Done and Done

51504bat how is it that you know what 5150 of the California Health and Safety Code is? Former Cop or work in the health profession? I am a retired California Cop is why I am asking and I have used that section many times.
Retired cop that is crazy for Big Ass Trucks.

Here's another that just happened today. Last week Mac's delivered my order with the wrong parts in a bag with the right part number label on the bag. I phoned them and they issued a "Ticket" to redeliver the right parts.

A week goes by and no packages on my doorstep. I call them today with the Ticket number and the rep tells me the ticket was "closed" for lack of information. What? I had reviewed and verified everything with the first rep.

I think the wheels on their wagon are starting to wobble.

Just received an order from Macs, it was exactly like I ordered, freight was 10 percent of order which I didnt think was too bad. Happy with the service.

Earlier Mac´s was OK. Stuff were OK, shipping cost reasonable and deliverytime to my CA address 3-5business days. Also they send Order confirmation like we had make deal (I live in Finland, shipping is to CA USA).

Now, they do not answer my emails. If I make order, I need to ask 4-5 times during next week and maybe after "some hard words" they are say that "your stuff is shipped". No, confirmation anymore, shipping costs are doubled and now they ship many shipments (one order) from different warehouses,...

One problem more. We have deal 10% discount all stuff. Last shipment they were give me any discount,....

What you are saying can be acceptable. The problem comes in on very small expensive items especially. Buy a new stromberg 97 and the $500 price tag will result in $50 just to ship a carburetor. You could ship 3 of them for $12 USPS priority flat rate, and it will get there in two or three days. % cost shipping policy capitalizes on ones ability to pay! with no regard for actual shipping cost.

This is turning out to be a great thread with so many tips on new (at least new to me) vendor names and websites. Living across the pond makes ordering and waiting for the parts to arrive seem like a lifetime, and I'm soooooo ready to use someone else rather than Mac's.

Past experiences:
I order a Cabriolet windshield frame. After months of waiting I ask where is it, what have you done to my order? Answer goes along the lines of "oh, it's just been shipped!" Great news. I wait for it to arrive surface mail across the Atlantic. I open the parcel and what do I see; a brown box with picking label indicating that it actually holds a Cabriolet windshield frame AND another picking label saying that it's a closed car frame. Even without opening the box I know which it is and opening it only confirms my doubts. I contact Mac and get into a three week debate about them charging my credit card for something I had not ordered in the first place and how they'd want the item back. Mind you I had already paid VAT and tax on import so it was turning out to be a very expensive frame. I send them several quotes for sending it back and in the end they agree that I keep the frame and they refund the money. End of story but I'm left without the correct windshield frame. They did offer to back order one for me but no guarantee how long that would take. Mind you I was quoted the two weeks which is their usual line for everything not stocked.

Then another order. Again I wait for months and when I ask what's keeping it they send me an e-mail telling me that it's been sent out the same day I asked for its whereabouts. By then I had waited for FOUR months. I ask them whether they are mad sending me something four months late, I no longer need the parts. They recall the order and have it directed back to their depot.

The thing common to these orders is that when I inquire about them it seems like a wake up call prompting them to act. They send the order out the same day after they've been holding my money hostage for months. When they realise that something needs doing asap they pay no attention to what they're doing and send out shipments consisting of the wrong parts.

I order a hood. It's missing the handles. I contact Mac's and they ask me for the order number. Shouldn't they be able to look it up on their files since they have my name and address..? I sent it them and don't hear back from them. This was a couple of weeks ago and it seems as if I will have to take it up with them again.

Yes you can deal with Mac's as long as you are persistent and ready to invest time in chasing up your orders.

Oh wait, maybe I should have added the $3.50 "rush my order" fee to all my orders and I now wouldn't be caught up in this mess! :D :D

Solution seems quite simple...everyone jump on the "Boycott Mac's" train and they will eventually get the message. Ive already tried the kooth route of addressing my problems calmly with customer service, in which a SUPERVISOR basically told me to get bent and that they have hundreds of thousands of customers and dont need my business (see my previous post).

I hate to bad mouth business but this kind of practice is unacceptable and obviously im not alone with my expierences, fortunatley it appears as though they are beginning to cook their own goose. As ive said before, I refuse to buy as much as a cotter pin off of them and if enough others do the same perhaps when it begins to hit them in the pocket book they will start to appreciate those that have made their existance possible.

Scooder...you my friend hit the nail on the head

"Macs can go screw themselves, although the screw probably won't fit, or it'll round off."

Joblot,is great they stand behind their products , they know what the parts are ,you are dealing with real car people .the best

The problem with Mac's is it's very noticeable bad change from a supplier who was great only 6 or 8 months ago. as Flatheadfan, Tom notes "major changes have occurred with Eckler's take over. The use of Ford part numbers has been abandon in favor of in-house part numbers which have no relationship to Ford numbers. The second negative change for me is the revising of shipping costs upward. Yes, I know shipping is getting expensive but rates seemed to have doubled at Mac's since earlier in the year." While Echler's took over a while ago they only instituted these LOUSY changes fairly recently. Sucks worse when a good supplier goes bad!

Have had great luck in the past with Spadaro's too!

I'm sure the Drake $2.00 "handling" charge is a way to re-coop the costs of the cardboard shipping boxes, tape, and packing materials?
