Things Not To Do

I have a spare oil pan dipper tray that has four 3/32 holes drilled at the lowest point of each reservoir; this I don't understand.
Never just swedge the oil pan drain plug insert onto the oil pan. They will eventually slip when trying to remove the drain plug; just my experience.

Its amazing what some folks do isn't it. But, heck when you drill those holes you can drain more oil out of it.:D Upon start-up I wonder if those dipper trays can be filled before the rods start to rattle.

Don't slide under the back of your car to check something or your head will be quickly introduced to your rear end !! :D I hate when the happens.

Ditto what slackcat said and leaving the hand crank in the crankshaft pully rachet nut when finished timing the car. And then cranking said car up with the electric starter.....:mad::rolleyes:

Never remove the rear axle assembly with the spring attached. A rear spring under tension is lethal, yet people do it all the time.

Never put STP in a worn engine, thinking that it will thicken the oil and stop it from leaking as much.
It made mine smoke like a freight train.
Maybe there was some shine in the coffee that day.:)

Don't touch the car or a tool when angry, upset of too drunk. However when upset, or frustrated, flogging a problem with old cars can really get you out of the doldrums.

Don't force nuthin

a 1/2 hour task takes 4 hours.

never start a task 4 minutes before Momma is serving dinner.

Ask for help the first time, not the second.

Over night rest seems to cure some car problems

Clem I don't drink so the drunk is not my problem, but your list nails all of life, not just our Model A life. Why is it that I relate to your "Things Not To Do". Thanks to you and everyone for sharing in this thread. Some threads certainly cause reflection.

If you are smart, you can avoid a lot of problems by using only original style points and the short proof condenser made bt A&L !!!!!!!

Happened to a buddy of mine. After a long day installing a new insert top in his Model A, with the job finally done, they left to take a break BUT WITH THE SHOP LIGHT STILL ON AND LAYING ON THE NICE NEW ROOF. Upon their return, a hole had been melted in the roof. Can you imagine the level of bummedness!?

Sounds like a Road Runner cartoon.:D:p

I learned to wear leather gloves when trying to remove a tire from a rim by using a hammer and chisel.

He should have know better when the hoist was made by ACME.

I bet almost all of us married folks have learned not to tell your wife you're going out to the shop, but it will ONLY TAKE 10 MINUTES!
