whats my flathead worth?

I won't give much for one not knowing whats all up with it. Every one thinks their motor is worth a bunch of money. Unless I can see it run or know its been magnafluxed and pressure tested i wont give more than 50$ for one.

A friend sold an 8BA last week for $400.00. I turned over by hand complete with bell housing but no transmission.

I have a complete 52 lincon flathead V8. It turns over by hand not sure the last time it ran or the cubic inch. thanks chuck
If you have a '52 Lincoln flathead, it's probably super rare, thought the last year for the Lincoln flathead was 1951. (otherwise it would make a good boat anchor)

Like 51 Merc-CT said, '51 was the last year for the Flathead in the Lincoln, it was a 337 ci. You don't say where you are located... We have a '49 Cosmopolitan convertible with a 337 and I'd like to have an "extra" if it is a good one and you are close to Tampa, FL, please let me know. Vic

Looks like he is in Ohio

One of the most important aspects of "what's it worth" is "where are you?". If that is truly a '51 Flathead, it weighs a bunch and transporting it any distance will cost more than the value of the engine. Value is a very relative matter: How desirable is it? (Like "who can use it?"), is a stick shift or automatic model (A stick shift can be adapted to all manner of drive lines whereas the Hydramatic has no flywheel nor proper bell housing).

Like Vic, I could use a spare but only if conditions are right. I'm in Indy, where are you?

Dale, is your 337 matted to a Hydro-Matic or a 3 speed with OD? Our '49 Cosmo has the 3 speed w/OD. Vic

I would say the 337 is worth 300-400 in these parts and if it were a good running rebuilt motor 1200-1500. now that's the prices i have seen in calif.....gump

Mine's like yours-in fact it came out of a '49 Cosmo. It now resides in my '53 F-100.

That's interesting, how did you set up the front motor mount, did the 337 line up with the '53 motor mount that bolts to the front of the block on a 239 and into the cross member?

yes i'm from youngstown ohio. was just wondering the guy I got it off of told me it was a 52. I never ran any #s on it but it has lincon on the head so I assumed it was a lincon. I have no clue about flatheads. Was going to look for a model a or t sedan to put it in but the plant closed that I worked at and thought I might get a few bucks out of it. Thanks for all the info

Even though everything on the 337 is "similar" to it's smaller cousins, everything is still different. Nothing in the truck really wanted to accomodate the beast-new front mount pedestals had to be fabricated (might not have been necessary if Ford hadn't changed to a "Y-block style" mounting system in '53) to handle the conventional water pump mounts plus a new crossmember to support the rear of the transmission.. The bright side was the vast amount of space under the hood and the lack of interference issues that usually plague engine transplants. The original column shift still works.

If I'm not mistaken, the Lincoln logo on the heads is a 1949 model thing. '50 & '51 merely displayed the FoMoCo logo.

is "Lincoln" on the head or on the valve cover? as most have said, Lincoln came out with a OHV in 1952
