Replacing front motor mount springs

I'm replacing the front motor mount springs on a 1930 Tudor as the current springs are after market with rubber inserts. Hand crank does not align properly.

After I loosen the rear mounts, what is best way to raise front of engine to replace these springs? Is a 2X4 with jack under the oil pan OK...or is there a better way. I don't have access to an engine lift.

Thanks.

Watch your firewall ...not much room back there with the linkage ... raise it just a hair to take off pressure. just a hair...a towel on that 2X4 ...slowly and have someone watch that pan. again a hair ,,,top water hose too..if i remember right ..been to long...

First take out the accelerator assembly (two bolts on the back of the engine). Next remove the two, rear, lower motor mount bolts and loosen the upper ones. Then remove the upper radiator hose. Be sure your 2 blade fan is horizontal so it doesn't hit the radiator. 2x4s and a blanket should be ok under the front of the pan.

As an added precaution, also put a piece of cardboard between the radiator and the fan. Just don't forget to take it out when you are finished, before trying to start it up!
