I wanted to attend the classic car show held in La Paz, Mexico last weekend. I was hoping that I could take my latest project, the 1928 Model A Ford/Martin-Parry Station Wagon. By Thursday morning I decided that it just would not happen as the fellow doing the body work and painting was just not getting the parts I needed to me in a timely fashion. I had told him I needed them a couple months ago.

So, last Thursday I started getting my 1929 CC Pickup ready for the parade on Friday evening and car show all day Saturday. Thursday evening the painter called and said the rest of the parts were done and I could pick them up. This included the rear fenders, head lights, horn and some misc. hardware. He said that he would be over later Friday and Saturday morning to do the paint touch up and waxing.

The mad dash last Friday and Saturday morning.... Installing rear fenders.

This was scary! This car had never been driven except to shuffle cars in my garage, or turn it around. Oh well, I figured that the worst that could happen is that it would not run when I got to the parade. It did run with no real problems and was a crowd pleaser at the car show the next day.

Oh! There is a benefit to attending these shows!

I have two questions for Ben:

1) How can you live with yourself with those kind of benefits?:D

2) Does that 3rd. seat come out for luggage? Or is there more space back there?

Mike

Very nice Ben, the progress you've made is inspiring. I can't wait to get started on my wagon. By the way, why take the back seat out? that's where you put the "'perkey' accessories" lol.
Cheers,

Hi Ben,
You did a beautiful job.
It's come a long way since when I owned it.
I'm glad you were the one to buy it.
Regards, Neil

1) Those Mexican benefits are the BEST! ;)

2) I am surprised that you even NOTICED the 3rd seat! 4 bolts hold it in, so it could come out but I think that small amounts of luggage would just be stacked and tied to the tailgate.

On the way home from the car show I stopped at the upholsterer's and had them make a car cover. About $200 and 3-4 hours wait.

Very nice work, I have a 1929 Model A Huckster with a Martin Parry body and will post some photos soon. The top on this station wagon looks identical to our truck.

I have been noting the Martin Parry wagon thread. I had a '28 which I sold and delivered in the late seventies to someone in Shelby N.C. It had an old beige repaint and the wood was stained rather dark. The rear of the body had some sag. I have a photo which I could have emailed to someone if they wanted to post it. I lived in Lockwood, N.Y. at the time. I wonder where it is now.

COOL! Shelby is 15 minutes away from me. I go there all the time. I have not seen your old treasure, though. Now I will be looking for it everywhere I go:D

You can send me the picture and I will post it. Send to: purkeybh@gmail.com

I would enjoy seeing the picture, and ANY information that you might have on the car.
