Light switch horn rod

There sure is. It runs from the contact at the bottom to the button at the top. Most suppliers have horn rod repair kits and complete rods. If you have to buy a complete rod, make sure you measure your one for length. They do vary. There were 2, 28/29 lengths.
45 3/4" and 45".
Measure from the top of the tube where the tube goes into the head to the keeper groove at the bottom.
If you have problems I can send you pictures.

Yes, it is for the horn. It can be replaced if it is broken or shorted. Most parts houses have the replacement wire.

I took my original apart to be replated and there is nothing in the tube. It doesnt look like it has ever been apart. There also is no hole in the bottom of the tube at the contact switch, I filed the crud off thinking maybe it was covered up but no hole?
Thanks,
Randy

Thought i would borrow this thread rather than start a new one if that is ok.
So like, if i made my own horn/light switch rod out of solid rod with a spring at the top of the wheel so it keeps the rod from touching the contact thing at the center of the light switch, then when the rod is pressed it makes contact with the center contact would it short to ground through the column somewhere and work in the way it was intended?

The brass contact at the bottom of the horn rod should be in constant contact with the horn terminal in the center of the light switch. Changing the design to a solid rod sounds like a lot of redesign for no gain. My neighbors Army Jeep has a solid rod, but it has a different switch at the lower end of the column, and no light switch contacts to short to the horn contact.

Question at 02:15 a.m. and first answer at 04:29 a.m. ? When do you guys sleep? :)

It might work well but what I would be concerned about is the possibility of a spark burning the contact point at the switch every time the horn is engaged. With a constant connection there this won't happen.

To make mine "correctly" i would need a tube small enough & make a square thing, i think. Never seen a real horn rod before.

Sorry, I was looking at posts #7 & #8 where the post topic changed to the wisdom of using a solid rod instead of a wire. Those were the 02:15 & 04:29 a.m. posts.
But there are days when I don't know the time of day. Lots of them! :)
