35 Oil Sump Problem

Guys,

Rebuilding the engine on my stock 35 and ready to put on the pan. The oil pump in bought is a Dynagear precision oil pump DM-19. I bought the sump pick up tube and screen from MAC's 8RT-6615. The problem I have is that the stock oil pan in about 7-3/8" deep (after cutting out the baffles). The new pump assembly is about 7-7/8" from the pan flange to the bottom of the screen. The sump screen cover itself is about 7-3/8". In short, if I removed the screen or smashed in down, the screen cover would be at the bottom of the pan and wouldn't let oil in easily. What do I have wrong?

Thanks much,
Peder

Peder, is that an original ford pickup tube, or an aftermarket part? Hard to tell in your picture, but it looks like it was made wrong.....Ed

Peder, I have addressed this same issue in my 35; you'll need to bend the 8RT pickup tube enough to provide clearance. Brian

I also had to bend the pick up tube down a bit as Brian mentioned in his post. I had to do this on a '35 engine as well as a 59ab engine. Both used an 8ba OP and 8RT pick up tube.

JM35 Sedan where did you get that thick oil pump cap for the filter line?

jdl, that's the oil pump end cap for a Motor City Flathead Full Flow Oil Filter System. The thick cap and oil line brings the oil directly from the pump out through the oil pan bulk head, through the oil filter and then back into the engine at the rear of the block. JM
