1936 heater help

My 1936 has a hot water heater and when I turn the switch on nothing happens. The heater hoses don't feel like any water is circulating through. Not sure how it should work.

One hose from the heater goes to the top rad hose. You have to use a "heater hose tap" which are availible. You must install below the thermostat in the hose if you are using one.The other heater hose must go to the lower rad hose with a tap.You could also be air bound in the system. I have a like setup in my 36 works very well in the winter. I use original type 170 thermostats . call if you want more info. 1-203-260-5945 cell. ken ct.

The way it is connected is one hose goes to a tap in the top hose and the other hose goes into the side of the water pump. Water doesn't seem to be getting in the hoses tho. Not sure if there is a thermostat

Sounds air bound. Turning the switch will only operate the blower (or not). Don't believe it has anything to do with water circulation through the unit. Good luck.

Just found a valve on the hose connected to the water pump. I'll get brave and open it up and see what happens. The switch doesn't seem to turn on a blower tho either so I guess that is the next thing to figure out.

The other hose is not supposed to go to the WP it goes to the lower rad hose.Thats where the water enters the engine and comes out the top[WP] into top rad hose. Its hooked up wrong. Also fix the fan motor. ken ct.

Make sure that the water enters the BOTTOM connection, in your heater and exits out the TOP connection.
This way, your heater will never have air in it and will ALWAYS be FULL of the hottest water.

A lot of folks drill and tap the water pump instead of the hose.
Lawson, all the water from the engine is going into the top rad hosefrom the WP to be cooled in the rad.Any water comming out of the pump no matter which hole is under slight pressure. You cant try to force a stream of water back into the pump through the drilled hole or through the sending outlet hole. The water must be routed to the bottom rad hose. Dont know if this expla. makes sense to you but thats how mine is hooked up and works perfectly for yrs now.:D:D ken ct

I bought a 46 Ford one time and was not getting heat from the heater. I checked the hoses and both were cold. There was no valves on the hoses and i decided to see why water was not circulating. When i pulled thed hoses off i found a wooden plug driven in the heater pipe. I removed it and had heat. Marv
