Flywheel interchange.

Two questions, will a 32 four banger flywheel bolt up to a Model A engine with no modifications? What is the weight of the B flywheel?
Thanks, Rainmaker Ron

Yes the model B flywheel will bolt right up just like the model A flywheel and both use the same clutch. I put one on our roadster and it is 18 to 20 pounds lighter. it makes a noticable difference in throttle response and acceleration. It also helps gear shifting.

Purdy,
Help jog my memory here...was there something about needing to add/change a radius of the flange of the A crank if using a B flywheel?
I read something months ago...
Thanks!

Dave, The model B flywheel was a direct replacement. I bought this Flywheel at a swap meet in Augusta in 05. I know that it came off a 32 model B. The guy was selling it off in parts and tried to sell me the manifold and the 32 model B used a different exhaust manifold and thats what made me notice it. I asked and he said that it indeed was a 1932 model. It looks a lot like the model A flywheel but is lighter and makes a noticeable difference in performance.

Ron, the B flywheel is a direct interchange for the A FW. I don't know what the weight difference is but I can find out. I have one in the shop that has been cut and drilled for a V8 pressure plate. It is also balanced to +/- 1 gram.

Hey Ron,
The B flywheel can be used on an A, but not versey-vicey.
The B flywheel is 12 pounds lighter than an A flywheel.

Thanks Vince and all!
Sad news here at the Repo Depot, the G28 super banger we worked on at Bill Stipe's shop has developed a bit of tapping noise and I am taking it out of service. After 20,000 miles of 100 Horse power cruising I am reinstalling the original slightly warmed up engine. Somehow I let my light flywheel with V/8 clutch get away so I am happy to hear the "B" I have on hand will work. Thanks again for the help, stop by at Hershey.

I don't know that it's true, but it seems to me the B flywheel off a counterbalanced crank (33/34) would be lighter than the one off a non counterbalanced (32) crank.

Thanks Vince and all!

Hummmm, I'd bet after being spoiled with the G28T you ain't gonna like the driveability of THAT combination!
