National meets

Just a data point. The MAFCA national tour in Durango 2027 sold out in just a few days. They opened up more registration to accommodate the demand.

And just an observation from someone who has attended several MARC national meets. You have your majority of old fogies like me who attend, but there are more and more young people I see attending these meets.

I was at the MARC National meet at French Lick and it was very well attended . I also saw several young people there .

These are hard numbers to compare due to the various locations. If an event is held in a popular area with a lot of other things to see and do the numbers will be higher. If it's off the beaten track you'll get fewer because there is nothing to do for the wives (who actually control the vacation plans).
As an old fogy myself I wonder if those "younger" people we're seeing are actually 50-60 year olds? We've got a couple members in the 30-40 range in our club. Out of 100+ that's not a very big percentage.
Durango is a good example. They planned for an average attendance. Demand was high so they upped the limit. Why was the demand up? Great scenic area with a lot to do is my guess. The challenge of driving in the Rockies in an antique car may be another.
I think the annual Gilmore meet would be the one to look at because it's always at the same place.

I'm sure Dave asked this question when our club informed the general Australian movement that National Meets look like passing into history after 2028 because the majority of states (Qld, NSW and SA) have said they cannot host another. No reason was given but I suspect it is because of the ageing of members.
Personally, I will greatly miss the national meet but our state snd the one other remaining one cannot carry the whole load. (Vic and WA)
FWIW, it is only 4 weeks until we leave on our trip to this year's meet which will be about 10,000 miles round trip.

I suspect the US will follow within the next 5-10 years. I've heard complaints from board members about how difficult it is to get someone to host. There are 3 Model A groups in the US - MAFCA, MARC and MAFFI. MAFFI & MAFCA are already sharing board/trustee seats among the same families. At some point there will be the ah ha moment and question why do we have 3 organizations why not merge into 1.

That was the reasoning behind my question. Just finding out if it is unique to Australia, or are other countries struggling as well with organising and numbers etc.

Actually, if I ever get to Australia, I would try to plan around a Model A event down there. Lots of "touring" cars and maybe a Ute or two.

I have been to the US about 5 times. It is no futher for you to come here than it is for me to go there. What's stopping you?
