1947 Mercury runs, doesn’t move

Re: 1947 Mercury runs, doesn’t move

Broken axle , can you pull the rear drums out with it on jack stands ?wrong axle on one o both sides , forgot to install front u joint

I thought so, locked up driveshaft and and one axle could not turn the other.

Even though a new clutch was installed by professionals, starting to think something is wrong on that end. F.y.i. the search assistant was telling me how to bleed the clutch, that was the first I ever saw that. The whole rear end is detached ******(transmission) is out of the car. Truly appreciate all the comments and suggestions.

The Search Assistant? You assigned Huey a prestigious new title? I’m in favor of that, he does work very hard searching for answers, and we all enjoy reading them.
Huey, am I back on your Xmas list now?

It does sound like the clutch, but the easy way to tell, with the car on the ground and in gear. If the speedometer works, It is behind the gearbox, if it doesn't work it is either the clutch or inside the gearbox.

If the clutch disc was installed backwards, it can NOT engage ...

Oh it will engage alright but it how you want it and potentially jam up on flywheel. Definitely will not slip

With the driveshaft locked if you turn one axle the other axle should turn in the opposite direction.

Re: 1947 Mercury runs, doesn’t move

Okay, the clutch disc is an 11” according to the number which is 81t-7550. I have an original book that says part number is 51A-7550. Is it possible the wrong clutch was installed, (I know it is possible) does it seem like that is likely? I can’t find the pressure plate number, yet.

Incorrect.
It will work fine, but after the clutch pedal goes past about half way down, something comes in contact with the pressure plate, makes a very loud noise.
Ask me how I know..... I was 16, first gearbox. '46 V8.
