My original objective was to educate myself. Now I am thoroughly confused. I have received communications concerning the statement that these sway bars were the same. I was told to (1)closely examine the brackets; especially the holes where they bolt to the frame. [One of the bars had gaskets on the bracket so I didn’t/couldn’t pay attention to the bracket holes]. (2)look for a difference in the size of the opening where the rubber bushing is exposed (3)notice the direction that the swivel studs are inserted indicating the taper would have to be on opposite sides of the sway bar (4) check the symmetry to see if the one is bent. I was also provided pictures from the May, 1940 Chassis Parts list which shows a totally different type of sway bar setup. I don’t have a 1940 vehicle, so none of this matters to me, but it may be helpful to someone trying to restore a car and runs into differences. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves concerning whether these two bars are the same. After laying one bar on top of the other and then reversing ends, I determined neither was bent which understandably could be misdiagnosed by a picture.
