1936 leaking fuel line at tank

I've read all the posts on the ferrule and about not overtightening. New nut and ferrule , all good with only 5 gallons in it. then with 10 gallons , leaks around the line itself from the fitting. appears the onion is not set. have tightened slowly tested, leak, repeated. still showing threads, last turn had a bit of a "screech" which I thinkmight be the ferrule spinning a bit? I have not tried vaseline on it between the nut and it. frustrated as all get up. oh and this has a steel line. nut was turning slightly in a herky jerky fashion with moderate effort, before the screech. Should I crank it down tight or use vaseline or both?

I'd clean the Vaseline off. Make sure the fuel tubing is pushed in firmly until it bottoms out . Use blue locktite and two wrenches and tighten it up tightly. My guess is that you haven't pushed the tubing in far enough and/or not tightened sufficiently.

got it! I got another turn or so and that did the trick.
I got concerned with the "don't over tighten" issue, which I agree with , however still had to get it pretty tight to seal.
thanks all for the response!

Good and yes, they need to be quite tight. I usually get it snugged up and then with one hand squeeze the two wrenches together. If it still leaks tighten it again.
