1940 ford heater motor

I have a 40 Ford heater with only one wire to the 6 volt motor. From this discussion, it indicates the motor is not original. Do NOS motors ever show up for sale?

I did look to see what was in the Mac's catalog and I saw they had a universal motor.

Thinking that might work for me as well. The truck in more of a hotrod than a restored truck.

Still can't get over the fact that the thing runs in reverse.

The "magic" happens in the unique switch for the hot water heater of the '40 Ford. It changes the polarity (direction) of the motor. Important to remember that the fans are designed to operate with that switch. If you can't reverse the direction of the motor, your defroster won't work as designed. When you take it apart, you will see that the heater blower is a squirrel cage fan that blows air down toward the floor, and the defroster fan has blades that work in the reverse direction, blowing warm air up to the windshield.

Terry,
If I'm not mistaken, they have different switches too.
