Mercury vs Ford

I’ve read that not much sheet metal is interchangeable between a 1939 Mercury and a 1939 Ford of the same body style…..is the Mercury interior and exterior wider than a Ford ?

The answer to the first statement is NONE is interchangeable, the answer to your question is YES.

Well thanks….is there a vender that provides a front floor mat specifically for a 1939 Mercury
NO SIR, unfortunately. Ask me how I know....I've tried 39 deluxe & Standard Ford they are narrower, the hole for the shifter and for the peddles do not match up, you either have to cut one or the other to make it work but THEN you still have floor board showing on both sides by the doors AS well as it throws the length off SO you have extra that has to be stuffed under the seat or more up the firewall of the car!!!!
I have "heard" but never tried that one from a 41 Ford is "close" (wider) and can work but you have to cut the whole for the shifter....and I cannot vouch for the color OR If the above is true!!!!
You will ALSO find the same for the floorboard rubber seals....You will have to buy TWO set for 39 deluxe and cut and paste with rubber cement IF you want to have floor board seals!!!!

If you are not a member of the Early Ford V8 Club, you should join.....Trevor or MercmanfromOz here on fordbarn did a fabulous article in the V8 Times on side by side comparisons and differences in the 39 Ford Deluxe & the 39 Mercury!!!! Trevor has also posted some here on Fordbarn about it, I tried a quick search to find and link it for you but haven't found it yet!!!!! Maybe he will find the post and ad to it??

Which 39 Mercury body style do you have??

Just for the record, no difference between the standard and deluxe (Ford) mats.

Hey thanks for the replies ….don’t know what happened to mine….cloud ? Cosmos ? trash can ? …anyway my ‘39 is a sedan….

Thanks Kube

Yes, ignorance Is costly!!!! I didn't mention that fact as I didn't think it necessary for the intended vehicle application. My bad.

And I should have been more specific in my initial response. The '39 Ford, whether a standard or deluxe model utilized the identical mat. Benton Gray, NEVER black.
Same with 1940 Fords. One mat regardless of model. Always Benton Gray, NEVER black.
