That's called the "centering" adjustment and is done with the eccentric screw that is located between the two lower sector housing bolts. You first do all three normal adjustments (main shaft end play, sector shaft end play, worm gear) then do the centering adjustment. If you change the centering adjustment, you'll likely find that the worm gear binds at the center of travel, so you need to go back and do that again. Keep doing the worm gear adjustment and the centering adjustment until you get it right. Les Andrew's red book has a good description of how to do it. If you have to turn the adjusting screw more than a quarter turn there's something wrong.Hi,
Adjusting my 2 tooth steering box after putting new bearings etc in it.
As I understand it, its not possible to get it play free in all positions.
What you want is no play when centered and same amount of play 1/2 turn in either direction. Is that correct?
