Barnfind!?

Henrik is a master welding with his eyes shut :-)
Kidding asid he "only" tacked the panel and then oxy acetylene welded it shut with proper protection.

Im planning a Magnum 5" axle with a monoleaf spring.

In the rear i have an idea to use airbags without cuting anything. It will be three four inches higher in the the rear when driving.
The rear axle is resting on the frame in this picture.

Running board closed up and finishwelded.

Henrik rustproofed the inside befor welding it closed

Floor ready for some primer and paint

This piece of iron will provide some motivation in the future i hope

59AB that was dissasembled 10-15 years ago by the previous owner. I got it for free since the main bearingcaps was lost. (more about that later).

At the time they fixed the valve seats/valves and put in new cam bearings.

Fatory reliving yes it was a truck engine.

The owner before me, sorted all the bolts, in small plastic containers. And most of it is still there.

The crank does not look good, this happened when it was standing to close to a car battery that was charged and the gas from the battery caused it to rust, i have to use some emery paper and do some measuring.

Re: Barnfind!? Updated

This weekend i spent a day fixing a VW Buggy floorpan. A friend of mine an I built this 30 years ago for him and after spending 25 years in a shed there was some rust to handle. Its good to see that my workmanship has improved some over the years :-)
01.jpg

After that it was finaly time for the Barnfind, we mounted the sparewheel holder.
02.jpg

The holder was a bit to long, i guess it was for a Tudor, But after cutting of a couple of inches in thr bottom at top it fitted OK.
03.jpg

Looking good, or what ;-)
04.jpg

I guess ita low enough now, pitty its so hadr to drive it.
05.jpg

Then we put it on its side again.
06.jpg

Underside of the floor was cleaned with metal prep.
07.jpg

Two layers of Beckrylon should be enough. It contains rust protection.
08.jpg

when the collor is dry we will put on a layer of stonechip protection
09.jpg

Sone its time for the frame to get it's share.

No we are not hibernating here in Sweden, just getting a bit slow in the snow.
A couple of weeks ago We went up north to Ekanes Gassers Swapmeet, got me some shiny 46 parts and a rearview mirror

Bought a F1 Stering box for my 33 Roadster to

01.jpg

Same weekend we went over to Califorinacars, and picked up a rear seat for the coupe
02.jpg

Painted the floor with bitumen to get some protection for stone chipw and it get a bit quiter to.
03.jpg

Henrik Welded up some more holes
04.jpg

Had to fix a couple of cuts in the frame after the floor change, Sometime a grinder can be to quick for you.

05.jpg

Since we want he coupe to drive low I got a set of Firestone 9000 on Ebay, this is my first try with the airbags, I know its kind of off topic for Fordbarn, but it will be bolt on bolt off.
06.jpg

I wanted it to be 100% bolt on with no welding on the frame, but i had to give up after some arguing, with my son and brother
07.jpg

Welded in a M10 Bung, in the frame.
08.jpg

Cleaned it with a M10 tap.
09.jpg

Put this bit in the uper plate, and measured the maximun compressed length for the Firestone 9000 Bags
10.jpg

Had to move the panhard rod over half an inch, since Henry dis not expect me to drive it so low.
11.jpg

Here is the upper plate mounted in the bung, we will make another upper mount later when we turn the frame upsidedown.

12.jpg

Lower plate bolte in place so now we can start
13.jpg

Made a set of long shackels. And bent a bit of pipe to take up sideway movements.
14.jpg

During this stage we where thinking that we should be able to dismount both shackel's.
15.jpg

Soem rethinking ans one side is welded up to the bottom.
16.JPG

Airbag test mounted
17.jpg

The other end of the pipe is bolted to the diff house.
18.JPG

Then we had to test with some air, it seams to work good , and we will end up wit 6-7" suspension travel, wich will work OK i had less on my 42 coupe.
19.jpg

Just for the record everything will be welded up and grinded to look nice and smooth as soon as my son does the other side-
And we will buy bolt's of the right lenght to.
If it don't work at all its just to unbolt it and mount Henrys original spring.
And keep on driving

Super fine example of what can be done, one step at a time. CONGRATSto father and son, ernie n tx. ps my 46 short door coupe is called the Chicken Coop(in its recent past) LOL ernie

Last weekend a milestone was passed.
we took the coupe out for a spinn. first drive was 300 yards.
And then we got some trouble with a burnt up breaker point, caused by wrong type of ignition coil (to low resistance).

Then the radiator was leaking, and we didn't have time to fix it the proper way, so a can of bar's leak solved it for now.

Moving pictures here

Those FIRST miles are always an adventure. Glad to see you are hanging in there. It helps to view all problems that arise as just another "opportunity" to fix or figure out something new!
Thanks for the updates.
Good luck,
Al

274 day's after the purchase it was time to get the car inspected and all paperwork fixed. We had a time on the 20 of June. but last Wednesday they called and offered a time today Saturday. So we had to speed up fast. On Thursday the generator caught fire, I tried to run a 6 Volt generator with a 12 Volt regulator. Did not work for me.

So had to have the car trailered, but i could not hire one, and my Volvo died on me (fuel pump). My son's friend had bought a new toy so the transport was solved. And 7 a clock we where waiting outside to get the car inspected.

01.jpg

We had nice company outside.

Everything went well, so now we can drive our project on the streets.:-)

There is still some work left to do, and some has to wait for the winter.
