406 duel point

I am looking for the point settings for an early FE 406 Ford duel point distributor. Also need a part # for the points. Are 54-56 V8 points the correct points for this distributor? In the end what is total dwell? Thanks

Using the '54/'56 V8 points sounds familiar, but I don't know for sure...

This isn't for anything too much like your FE 406 but it may be a place to start.
It's an image of part of an instruction sheet for a dual point conversion kit for a late 50's y-block (V8) distributor. (and worth every cent you paid for it)

Paragraph 6.
...each set of points at .018", or 27* dwell ... total dwell 33*-34*
.

The 54-56 points had a straight base while the 57 and up has a curved base. Maybe this will help?

Back in the day, we would take the old point set apart and add the spring to the new set, making a double spring. Then clean the cam very well, and grease it and the rubbing blocks. 34 degrees dwell sounds right.

My 406 dual point dist takes the "straight" points but they are not the same as the 6 cyl straight points. Found that out the hard way. The difference is the rubbing block is on the opposite side of the point arm. They can be hard to find. I picked up mine on epay.

Do you know if the points were the same as the 55 and 56 V8 points?

6 cyl points will work, just not all 6 cyl points will work. I have run them in my 289 hipo, 406, and 427's. If I remember right it was the 240/300 points, but it could of been the 170/250 that fit. been to long since I used points!
