Model A Sport Coupe

I recently came across a 28-29 sport coupe. Before I make an offer on the car, I am trying to determine its worth. The car has been sitting probably about 30 years and was about half way through a restoration before somebody walked away from it. Engine is stuck and the car looks to be rough. Any ideas what I should consider paying?

This is what I see wrong in the pictures.
Needs a top (2-3K), engine (3-4), Radiator possibly, plus all of the body work (10k). Beyond that I can't offer much but to say maybe 5-9K.

I bought an early 28 last summer that was in a similar state, except the engine had been rebuilt in the 70's and was still free and in great shape. it came with a complete LB interior and top kit new in the box, all the chrome was re-done, a few spare parts, all steel fenders (even if one is wrong ) and tin work. I paid $8000 cash (Canadian funds) You can see pics of her in my profile from the day I picked her up. I feel I got a fair deal because the body is in great shape /no rust(and I'm not a body man) but I've found the mechanical work they did left much to be desired, but all in all I'm still happy with my purchase. One note, its hard to find a really good car to start with here in Manitoba Canada as our roads see boat loads of salt on icy roads in winter, so most anything that wasnt winter stored since pre1960 is a bucket of rust and as such, rust free cars are a premium. But after Can$ to US, it works out to $5700

I was thinking about the same as Maclab, 5K tops and shoot for less to start.

There's not enough pictures to tell much about the body work needed, but I can see rear wheel well patch panels just bolted in place.

Bills' RULE OF THUMB: Figger out in your head the cost of restoring it, then MULTIPLY that by 3.7--------------------BUT, don't tell your wife!

Thanks all,
I am waiting to see where the owners number is first. I was going to shoot for 3,000. I will keep you posted...

It also has all fenders hanging from the rafters of the garage, in good shape and new seat springs in the boxes. not sure on a title...

The lack of title in many cases has caused me to walk away from many a deal! It can be a major obstacle ! Wayne

can't tell from the photos, but I believe the '29 spt. coupe has a separate moulding that goes around at the base of the top. If missing, those may not be reproduced and hopefully is available with the car.
